Something to look into here - Nektar's new Footswitch Controller:

http://www.nektartech.com/tablet/pacer-midi-daw-footswitch-controller.html

10 (+1) Pedals, each with an LED 'scribble strip', and each pedal can send multiple MIDI messages when pressed, or step through a string of MIDI messages with each subsequent press - lots of uses with Hauptwerk spring to mind.

Sounds very worth looking into, and it sells for less than £200

If you have the room the Behringer FCB 1010 gives you two damper/crescendo pedals for $149 US. I used one until I successfully converted an old Allen to MIDI.
