iConnectMidi4+ USING A MAC TO CONTROL A HAUPTWERK PC

PostSun Jul 22, 2018 12:38 pm

Folks,

I use Sibelius to do my scores on my MacBook Air and my Hauptwerk computer is a custom-built Windows PC. I have long-sense been wondering if it was worth it to figure out how to have Sibelius on my MAC remote control Hauptwerk on my PC. Quite by accident, I stumbled into GuitarCenter and saw an open-box iConnectMidi4+, an interface that I had never seen before. After doing some reading, this thing sounded like a God-send! Long story short, route MIDI over multiple 3 USB ports, 4 DIN I/Os, even network, to/from all connected devices - controllers, iOS, MAC, Windows, etc...

Setup took my some time to figure out and was a bit tricky - dealing with Sibelius's automatic MIDI channel assignments, but I'm happy to report that I'm able to have Sibelius playback through the iConnectMidi4+ to the Hauptwerk PC and control the organ.

I've been reading the great thread and tutorial by John Murdoch (THANK YOU) which was a huge help in getting everything to this point.

The obvious limitation here, is that I can't playback scores with other instruments. I'm aware of that. I will work through that in it's due time.

I was considering buying the new MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM to run Hauptwerk and Sibelius simultaneously, but if I can get this to work, I will accomplish my task and will have saved about $2,500.

I have been wanting to pick up one of the new iConnect products. Meanwhile I found a fantastic deal on a pair of discontinued ConnectMIDI interfaces. I bought two because there were being sold for about 10% of the normal price. I'm using one for my Pianoteq virtual piano which runs on a Raspberry Pi. No ethernet connection on these but they can connect a pair of computers plus a USB hub can be added for further expansion. iConnectivity seems to be ahead of the curve.
