7.1 Sound Card

PostSat May 09, 2020 3:50 pm

Has anyone used a sound card and successfully direct different groups of stops to different output channels? I am using Hauptwerk IV.

I hope I have understood your question correctly.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding of systems like this (e.g. 7.1 home-cinema/surround-systems) is that it’s almost certainly not suitable for use with Hauptwerk.
Why? Because *the system* decides which audio signals go to which speakers. The system, not you.
Surely if you have (or want to have) a multi-channel system, *you* want to decide where to send the different audio streams.
And this is easy to do with the audio routing in HW v.4 and an audio Interface with the required number of outputs.

Hello LS-AZ,

Yes -- to add to Douglas' reply -- your sound card would need to have an ASIO driver that presents the card's channels as distinct audio (ASIO) channels, so that you could route things to them independently. 'n.1' sound cards aren't usually designed for those purposes. However, you might possibly be able to use the freeware ASIO4All driver with it: http://www.asio4all.org/
