Behringer 1820

PostMon Jun 15, 2020 9:26 am

I finally decided on the Behringer 1820 for interface but have questions. I am using it with Imac Catalina.

My first question is about the midi. I am using the mac midi software. Do i just run two midi cables from pedal to the 1820?

Thanks Roy

Not quite sure what you're asking (?).

If you have midi from a pedalboard, for example, with a standard midi connector, then you would connect it to MIDI IN on the 1820 (just one cable). You won't need to use the MIDI OUT connection. Midi will connect to the Mac through the USB interface on the 1820.

Thanks for the reply. If i am understanding this, i just need a midi cable with no electronics in the cable.

I converted the pedalboard with one of those circuit boards, with in and out and a little interface in the cable. I had it connected to the imac with usb.

So .. if your existing midi cable terminates in USB to connect to the Mac, then you don't need to use the MIDI IN on the Behringer. The Behringer doesn't support a USB MIDI IN, in any case. You'd only need to use the Behringer if your midi cable has standard 5-pin male Midi connectors on both ends, and you need to convert to USB to connect to the Mac. It sounds like you may not need to use the MIDI ports on the 1820 at all ...
