HW and Adobe Audition

Does anyone have any experience using HW with Adobe Audition or Premiere Pro (or any other DAW)? I am attempting to use it to create underscoring for online worship services, and currently using the built-in audio recorder. Which works okay, but adds several steps that I would rather skip, if possible. Specifically, for it to work on the same machine would I need to use HW as a VST within the DAW? (I currently have the lite edition of HW V, so, I realize it may not work.)
