MIDI Encodes - what to get

PostMon Jul 26, 2004 7:36 am

[Reposted]
Can someone give some advice on the
http://geocities.com/midiboutique/ MIDI encoders ?

For the pedals I assume that I've got to get the 40 keys pedalboard MIDI encoder - but for the Great and Swell with 61 notes what is best to use ?
I have an older electronic organ (about 1977 - a Livingston if that means anything) - would I already have the correct wiring for a scanmatrix in the organ ? Would it be better to get the 64 scanpoints (scanrow) - at least
one does not need to wire up the diodes.

Also, what hardware would be advised to combine the MIDI outputs
(pedal, swell and great) into one PC Gameport/MIDI port ?

Just to say that I want to buy completed units rather than components to solder/mount, etc

Thanks for help

(scuse for bad english)
if you want completed units so you have to buy completed midi keyboards such as organworks, hoffrichter, laukhuff ... (see links)
if you want to use your old organ, you have to look for its keyboard wiring and then have to buy components and if not soldering but mounting them ... (i dont know blak box with keyboard-in/midi-out ;o)
then for interfacing with pc you can buy usb units with midi x in/x out such as midiman 2x2 or 4x4 or 8x8 or steinberg midex or ... other possibility is midi merger (x in - 1 out) to plug in the midi in of your pc.
hope its help

Hello!

You have 2 manuals and 1 pedal? So you can take the mscan midi-encoder. OK, it's for 3 manuals, but you have there the option for a 3rd manual.
And you have also around 50 inputs for a stop control.

I think, your old organ comes not with a scanmatrix, but with scanrow and one busbar, discribed here.

In this case you need a key-multiplexer. I've the circuit and the pcb-layouts for this, if you are interested.

The whole unit (mscan with some costumization and the keymultiplexer) works here in my old WERSI organ without any problems.

Not sure what this product is - if I have Swell (61 notes), Great (61 notes)
and pedal (30 notes) can I wire all 152 inputs to this board and select
a chanel per manual and then output this to the GamePort/MIDI port on
my PC ?

Hello!

Look here!
You can also download a manual.

Yes, it connects at least 384 scanpoints (6x64) to ONE MIDI-Output.
Look into the manual, so you can see on which channels the inputs are operating and which MIDI-messages will be generated.

Or take HWce (one item below), it comes with 4x64 inputs, no memory for stops, no couplers, no transposer.

Sorry, I'm still not there.

The mscan needs a SCANMATRIX 8x8 input. My requirement is to have
a SCANROW system - I therefore want the same hardware setup as the
mpc64xr:

This product (the mpc64xr) has the spec (to quote)
* 64 scanpoints, organized in scanrow
* no need of arranging the key contacts in scanmatrix
* no need of additional diode per each of the key contacts

This is what I want - perhaps the answer is just to buy 2 mpc64xr and 1 mpc40 for the pedals ??

But what I was after was a fully integrated unit which would accommodate all keys AND stops with swell volume control. I presume that I will need to purchase yet another board for the stops, etc - this all gets very expensive when it probably would be cheaper to buy a single unit.

OR - is there a product which is the reverse of keymux64 - this
Converts 8x8 scanmatrix to 64x1 scanrow.
I need something which will convert scanrow to scanmatrix...

Thanks for any help..

Hello!

Yes, as i've posted above, i have the circuit and the layouts for the keymultiplexer. If you are interested i can send it to you.

Maybe i can build such an unit for you, how fast do you need it?

It will cost around 6-10 £ / 64 keys.

I think, you need 3 units.

And you can connect it directly to mscan, no need of diodes.

Best regards
