LaunchPad or not?

PostTue Mar 14, 2017 11:37 am

I probably know the answer, but asking anyway. Is it possible to "tell" Hauptwerk that a LaunchPad is not connected (presently) and it is ok to proceed? The issue is a headless setup where the L/P is not always connected (for various reasons). Have to unpack and setup up a screen, keyboard and mouse each time this occurs.

Hello Ed,

[Topic moved here.]

Yes -- if you launch Hauptwerk with a MIDI device (such as a Launchpad) missing, then Hauptwerk will present you with several options, one of which is to keep the existing MIDI settings for the device whilst temporarily marking the device as 'offline'.
Best regards, Martin.

It's agreeing to the options that require a screen, and at least a mouse which is the issue because in this headless installation there is no screen (normally). So without the LaunchPad connected, Hauptwerk doesn't start..

Hello Ed,

There's no native way to choose the 'mark offline' option automatically, I'm afraid -- in that case you would need access to the computer.
Best regards, Martin.

Comes as no surprise. That's what I thought, altho the words native way sounds "interesting" Hmmm.. I asked in case I overlooked something. Thanks, Martin.

Could you use a software tool to provide the keystrokes needed to complete the HW opening screen "automatically"? This sort of technique is sometimes used to "automate" a Windows process which was designed to be driven from the screen with mouse and keyboard. There is almost certainly some equivalent tools for the MAC too.

Hi Iain,

you could use the (free) program AutoHotKey for this.
(for Windows, I know nothing about Macs)

That's the approach I was looking for.
