Who defines manual no?

PostTue Sep 19, 2017 6:02 am

I just started to setup some master couplers to my Launchpad using the Haverhill set. It was setup with floating manuals to enable swapping of the Great and Choir divisions. Initially I tried to setup Swell to Octave using division III. I was surprised that it changed the Choir. I tried it again without floating divisions and the result was the same.
Not seeing anywhere where this is defined, I presume that it is defined by the sample set producer and the only way to find their number is by trial as I did. Am I right?

Hello David,

Correct -- the sample set producer defines the numbering of the virtual manuals, although the convention that we recommend to them (which is followed by most sample set producers) is:

- I: Great, Hauptwerk, Grand Orgue or equivalent.
- II: Swell, Schwellwerk, Recit Expressif, Accompaniment or equivalent.
- III: Choir or equivalent.
- IV: Solo or equivalent.
- V: Echo or equivalent.
Best regards, Martin.
