Scoped pistons

PostTue Nov 12, 2019 1:59 pm

Another newbie question:

Can the “scoped pistons” feature be utilised for •each• sample set, eg, squeaking out a few more pistons in Hereford, as well as adding divisionals and generals to, for instance, Grabowski’s St John Cantius? Or are we is limited to the entire HW setup? Thank you.

Scoped combinations, as well as all the other master registration gadgets -- generals, reversibles, crescendo, and stepper -- are set up individually for each sampleset.

Yes - anything you do with pistons is saved with that sample set. I use the “stepper generals” a lot; they work like the sequencer piston on modern pipe organs - you can set your registrations in advance, then just step forward each time you need to change stops. Since they are generals, the whole organ can be reset each time, if that is what you want. There are a thousand of them for each sample set, which should be enough for an average recital.

Note that when you save combinations, you can choose a name such as “Bach recital January 2020”, and that will save every type of piston setting for that sample set. You can have as many named sets of combinations as you like, so the only limitation is the size of your hard disk - and combinations only use a tiny amount of memory.

If you try to shut down Hauptwerk without saving piston settings you've altered, you will be asked whether you want to save them; but I save whenever I've set something complicated, just in case there's a power cut . . .
