Loss of video montior

PostSun Jan 12, 2020 11:21 pm

This has happened quite a few times since installing HW-V. Under normal use the video monitor just goes blank for no reason whatsoever however the organ still plays normally. I still have full control of organ through physical pistons and switches on console setup in Hauptwork and external audio equipment plays just as normal. Even with all the updated device drivers, I'm still loosing my monitor and have no other way to shutdown Hauptwerk computer than by the computers front button. The few times my monitor did restore itself, it came back at a different screen resolution with huge desktop icons, and this time it was a large resolution with both sides of the screen width cut off. Even with all these issues with video monitor, organ still plays just fine. This never happened with HW-4.2.1 or any earlier version, just HW-5.0.0 and I don't understand what is in Hauptwerk software that can cause this to happen? Is there an unknown bug in the software that affects the monitor?

What kind of computer and what OS/version are you running? What monitors? What kind of video card? Are your video drivers up to date?

Hello Jim,

To add to Grant's reply:

On the slight off-chance that you're using Windows 10 and your computer is experiencing memory issues with Hauptwerk v5, I'll also send you a forum P.M. with a temporary work-around that should avoid that.

Does that solve it? If not, please let us know the answers to the questions Grant asked.
Best regards, Martin.

I too had a similar problem. HW would boot up and then the screen went blank. I could use HW to play and use my pistons and Launchpad. I tried alt tab but that brought nothing up. This happened 5 or 6 times after installing HW5 but has now gone away.

Occasionally I have seen my non Hauptwerk computer display go blank and then "restart". Looking at the Windows Event Log it seems that the video driver occasionally crashes. It might be worth checking the Events Log (or MacOS equivalent) to see if there is a driver problem. Iain

I will try that although it does appear to have gone away.

Hello Iain,

I've sent that temporary work-around to you too, in case it's relevant to that.

Hello David,

My apologies -- I think I might accidentally have sent the original P.M. to myself by clicking on the wrong person! I've sent it to you now.
Best regards, Martin.
