HW5 on Windows 8

PostFri May 15, 2020 11:54 am

No support needed, but might be interesting or useful for somebody...

I've taken the plunge and made the upgrade I bought months ago. I decided to take a gamble and try it on my existing Windows 8 system. Not because I particularly like Win8 (I don't...) but because I'm lazy, it's worked perfectly with HW4, and because I'd rather wait until I upgrade the computer to do battle with Windows 10 rather than do it now and risk introducing new issues.

Anyway, I'm pleased to report it seems to work just fine and I didn't have to do anything other than follow the standard upgrade instructions. Groningen is safely installed and will keep me occupied for a while, along with trying out the reverb which I've yet to do.

Thank you Martin and all!

This is comforting news, in that I don’t want to buy W10. Did you have to reload all your organs when updating from V4 to V5? I have a good group of large pipe systems and do not look forward to rebuilding them! Thx.

Hello johannus-dude,

Thanks for the interest in upgrading.

When upgrading to v5 you do need to download and install v5-compatible versions of any copy-protected (encrypted) sample sets that you might have. (v5 uses a different licensing system and can't load v4-format encrypted sample sets.) The release notice and user guide (including the instructions in the 'Upgrading or re-installing Hauptwerk' section) cover it in detail: https://www.hauptwerk.com/documentation/
Best regards, Martin.

Thank you, Martin, for the link. I looked all over and could not locate an upgrade guide. I’ve been buying organs for some time and I’ll have to find a way to see how many of them will work properly with the V5 upgrade. —Ron

Thanks, Ron.

Sample sets' makers' websites usually show which of their sample sets need updated versions and have the download links (or instructions to contact them for them).

The v5 versions of MDA and Paramount samples are available for download here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17988
Best regards, Martin.

Hi Martin,

the link to the other post, brings you to a link to a PDF-page with links for the downloads.
However, the downloads don't work.

For example 1903 Metz:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.milandigit ... ptwerk_rar

here is the error message:
"AllAccessDisabledAll access to this object has been disabled7C11DC56E69761B07ywNDmFYlxTX7Z1FCOxJ4gWWfdcika85FYAL3bGU9M4UMR/BPh9l6qBtdEM1k19TACULFc+YQKY="

Is this a temporary issue, or have the downloads been moved?

best wishes from Munich,
Stephen.
