Moving Hauptwerk V4.2.1 from W7 to W10

PostSat Oct 14, 2023 12:55 pm

I have done a dual installation with W7 and W10 on my PC. I have been using Hauptwerk V4.2.1 on W7 for several years with a MOTU 828mk3 hybrid sound module without problems, of which I use its internal reverb with the organs that my 32GB of ram does not allow me to install completely. Microsoft insists that I should switch to W10, even though I neither like it nor need it. Today I reinstalled HW in W10, sharing folders with the W7 installation on a second disk, but when I boot it it tells me that it cannot find a functional USB license, although it is still installed in the USB PC port.
Is it possible that the active license on the USB dongle only works with one operating system even if it is on the same PC? If now it is difficult for me to start the PC to play the organ, if I also have to migrate all the other programs from W7 to W10 and activate the USB dongle in W10, I think I will go back to playing directly on my Viscount.

Have you installed the ilok manager software on your Windows 10 system?

If you use ilok cloud and have installed the iLOK manager on Win10, have you closed the instance of ilok on the Win 7 environment?

It's not iLok. HW 4 used a HASP Sentinel (if I remember the name) dongle, which required its own Windows driver. That's what you'll need to download and install for the HW 4 dongle to work. I don't know where to find it, but I'm sure somebody here can help.

I don't think it's a problem with using the same dongle on two boot images, since the license restriction was always one computer/image at any one time.

P.S. I don't think Microsoft can really force you to upgrade your Windows 7 partition to 10 if you disable updates and keep it disconnected from the internet.

Hello biogons,

Whilst we no longer officially support Hauptwerk v4, you would indeed need to have the driver installed for its (HASP) dongle in order for it to be usable on a new OS installation: https://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.p ... 79#p147779

Thanks for the help. Indeed I forgot that the HASP Sentinel driver had to be installed so that w10 can manage the USB dongle. It was on the HW4 DVD. Now I can boot HW4 on W7 or W10. Now I have to solve the problem with W10, which shares the "sample sets" and "Working files" folders with W7 on a second disk. I had to delete the "St Annes" organ installation folders 01 and 10 so that the installation of HW4 on W10 could be done correctly.
