How to find DirectX version

PostSat Aug 21, 2004 11:22 am

Hi,

Sorry, still at the beginners stage I'm afraid.....

I've just the last few days purchased a brand new PC for HW2 only and it has Windows XP pro Version 2002.....BUT it seems that it's only got an
older version of DirectX (possibly V5). I'm not sure how to find the version number. How does one find the version number ?

Also, if I need to download the upgrade from the MS download site I only
have a Win98 machine connected to internet thus it prompts me to download the Win98 update....can I access the full DirectX 9.0 Win Xp
Pro file via ftp or would someone else have this ?

Thanks for any help,
John Dean

My best guess it that is it part of the Service Pack 2 for WinXP. Go get that one (250 Mb) and install it.

Otherweise run "dxdiag" in Windows\System32 - it should tell you all you want to know (and a lot more you really don't want to know).

Christian,

Otherweise run "dxdiag" in Windows\System32

Many thanks - I did not know about this diagnostic. I do have
Ver 9.0b - so should be OK.

Yes, I think so. I have 9.0c, but since several versions of DirectX I haven't noticed much difference. Maybe Martin has, since he's programming with this interface, but minor upgrades (a, b, c) won't make much of a difference except for bug fixes.

Christian.
