Problems with Audiophile 2496

PostSat Jan 21, 2006 10:15 pm

After all the rave reviews, I bought a 2496 card. After I got it working, I found it to be worse than my SoundBlaster Audigy card which is 3 years old. Although the 2496 seems to produce better sound overall, there are clicks present which were not there when I used the Audigy for the same settings. In fact I can't get these clicks to go away no matter what settings I choose. I have reduced the overall volume to 25 and have buffers set to 16 with a latency of 46. I was not expecting this. I have a Pentium 4 at 2.0 GHz with a 400 MHz frontside bus and 2 GB RAM. I'm using the St. Anne's Moseley organ with 5 stops, for example.

Can anyone suggest some settings I can change to make this card work? I expect that there is some detail that I am missing.

I love Hauptwerk! It's wonderful.

dno8maid, did you use the old driver as mentioned many times here on the Forum? If not, the latency will not be good.

Jim, I think dno8maid is using Ver. 1. Do a search on 2496 and driver or some such. You need to probably uninstall the card and reinstall with the older driver. I think the file you need is Delta_wdm_510027.EXE available from the M-Audio site. Check the Forum archives to make sure, though.

Good luck. The M-Audio 2496 is fantastic with the old driver.

Here's what the revision.txt file says is the driver version:
Ver: 5.10.0.27 Date: 04/11/2002

Audiophile 2496 problem.

I have Hauptwerk version 1.24.

I did install the older driver as recommended on this forum: Delta_wdm_510027.exe. The software uninstalled the Delta_WDM_5[1].10.0.5051.exe driver, then I installed the older driver.

What else can I try?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I noticed that despte the fact that I installed the older driver the new driver is still listed when I check the device properties. I will try again to get rid of the newer driver and install the older one. I think I read a post by someone who described having difficulty getting the older driver to be used by the system. What is the trick?

I would
1. go to the Device Manager (right click My Computer; click Hardware tab; click Device Manager button).
2. open Sound, video and game controllers
3. right click M Audio Delta Audiophile
4. click on Properties
5. click on Driver tab
6. click Uninstall button
7. reinstall with the older driver (I made a CD that had everything necessary to install the card on it and substituted the older driver file for the newer one). The key is NOT to install the newer driver first. Also, make sure you are running as Administrator in XP or 2000 when you do this.

Hope this works for you.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I did finally get it to work. I had to uninstall the newer driver, delete it and then reinstall the older driver. It does work pretty well, though for some reason, I seem to have gotten better results from the old Audigy card. I may still need to tweak some of the settings as has been suggested in various places.

Thanks again.

Hi Martin

Just wondered what your final advice would be on drivers for M-Audio 1010LT with HW2

The old driver 510027

Delta_WDM_5[1].10.0.5051 - you said in an October post that that was good with HW2

Or the latestDelta_WDM_5[1].10.0.5064 ( Jan 3rd)

I note that the driver package for the 5051 is rather larger than the others - does this imply more facilities ?

Many thanks

Peter

Hello Peter,

Where did you find the 5.10.00.5064 driver? I can't find it in the M-Audio website driver download section, even with 'show beta drivers' ticked:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

Of the other two, my recommendation would be to use the latest driver if you will primarily be using only Hauptwerk v2, but the older driver if you also want to use Hauptwerk v1 (since only the older driver gives an acceptable latency with DirectSound).

Thanks,
Martin.

Hi Martin

Sorry, I was looking at Fast Track Pro ( whatever that is) rather than 1010LT in the pane below the drivers section at.

at http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=sup ... Windows+XP

I'll try 5051

Regards

Peter
