That's why I adviced you to try free samplesets first, you still have to understand what you like and what you don't like.

Also, IMO, don't bother with dry sets, they either require (not always though) extensive voicing and/or multiple speakers to sound good, again, IMHO!

Yes, I'm taking my time. I get excited to find one only to discover that maybe it's whole set doesn't run in Basic or it's reverb is just too long. I keep wanting to pull the trigger but it'll still be a while. I'm discovering more Demo sets etc. But if I find something I like that does have a dry version that might make sense. Or I might just get an inexpensive dry one like Menesterol for just that practicing purpose.

There's your answer. Practice on that when you need the dry sound, and get normal sets that sound good and that you can enjoy for everything else. Even for the dry organs, there are simple ways to add a bit of reverb so they can sound good too.

Have you tried the free Pitea organ? Your comments lead me to think that it might be just what you want. The organ has less than 2 seconds reverb and has outstanding clarity for practice. The versions on my website add multiple releases and extensions that make it the equivalent of most mid-sized American church organs.
The thread that introduced it is http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12182
You might also try the Burea organ. Many people are very enamoured with it.
The organs are available here http://almorse.net/content_freeorgans.html

Oh I've been on your page before. That was early on when I was looking at everything and was on info overload. I'm downloading now. Thank you very much.

Oh my goodness, Al Morse, I just checked out your whole web page. I also used a Schrober organ carcass and pedalboard. I got the pedals off of Ebay for $107 and when I got there he had the two sides, the knee wall above the pedalboard, and the top with the music stand. I got those parts for $60. I used those window security magnet switches and a midi board for the pedals.

I just noticed those 2 organs are available on the ipad. I know that's anathema on here. :D But getting rid of the whole computer thing would be priceless.

So for about $63 I bought the Menesterol set mostly because it has a really really nice, clean sound. It has enough variation on the stops, is close to what I use at church, and it comes with the dry, moist, etc. variants. It runs well in the Basic edition. I have used the Demo version which is limited in stops with no reeds so I'm looking forward to hearing the rest. The Demo had no bass pedal stops so I had to couple down the manual. It meets my need for a really dry version to check my accuracy.

I will be looking for a bigger set probably in the next couple weeks. But it will take me a while to get through Menesterol..It was listed early on in this thread from Antal and josq so that was accurate. Thanks for the suggestion.
