Christ Cathedral, Garden Grove 1948 82 rank Aeolian Skinner

PostThu Nov 24, 2016 8:58 am

1948 G. Donald Harrison Aeolian Skinner
We are happy to announce that the G. Donald Harrison Aeolian Skinner currently installed in the Christ Cathedral Arboretum is now available. We are introducing this in concert with our Winter Special, where all of our single instruments are available for $295 or less. Please see our website for details. http://www.clrresources.com/ccarb-aeolian-skinner

This landmark Aeolian Skinner encompasses 82 ranks of pipes. Aeolian Skinner Opus 1141 was designed, installed and personally finished by G. Donald Harrison in the First Church of Christ Scientist in Beverly Hills in 1948. The original installation was heavily chambered in a very dry room. When that church suffered irreparable damage in the 1993 Northridge earthquake the organ was sold to the Crystal Cathedral and installed in the Arboretum in 1996. The Arboretum organ is known as The Fred Swann Organ, so designated by the Cathedral during Fred Swann's tenure as Organist at Schuller's Crystal Cathedral because he was instrumental in obtaining the organ for the Cathedral. The instrument was extensively cleaned and refurbished in 2014 when the sanctuary was restored, updated, and reconfigured for use in the Catholic mass. For details on the instrument, see the link above.

The instrument is available for $295 as part of our winter sale. Please download the demo and check out the instrument!

Are there multiple releases on this sample set? When I downloaded the trial version it said multiple releases not supported.

Update. I reloaded the set and the multiple releases now work fine. Sorry for what turns out to be a dumb question!

Very good to know and test a new big Skinner organ many people -me included- have been interested in.
Sorry but I do not find or understand the conditions or limitations of this demo ("The unpaid demo version will not support this instrument ...").

Finally I installed the "demo" but it is asking for the valid license

Great news! The 82r sounds like it would be a great practice instrument, judging by the reverb.
I have just ordered the Fccla skinner, at the sale price. When I have a sufficient play with it, the others may be on order (although there seems to be tuning issues in the top octave or so of the new set....)

P.s. Happy Turkey day!!!

HI. I purchased the FCCLA skinner yesterday. After installing, I find that there is a tremulant over the whole organ, but no facility to turn it off. I DO NOT WANT A THEATRE ORGAN. How do I fix this????????

I tried contacting via the website, but the catpha thing is broken and worthless. Please fix it!!!!!

Murph,

Try turning the wind model off for this set. It seems to me that there is a glitch regarding this, and you may need a patch to correct

Hope this helps

Hi Gerryo,
thanks. That worked. I'm surprised, as this ODF was only uploaded last week. With the wind model available in the states for the last year or so, I would have thought this was no longer an issue............

I'd still like to know if there are multiple releases.

There are. I modified my post above. I reinstalled the organ, and it worked correctly

Hi all,

Great news indeed! This is a rather sizable instrument as well. 8) Maybe I missed it, but I also have a few questions. Is it straight stereo, surround, or? Does anyone have info on memory requirements? Here's hoping my 32 GB can do it justice.

HI Marc,

In answer to your ??? You should have no problem with 32 GB.

Memory requirements vary based on your configuration. A minimum 16GB system will be require to run 16 bit stereo samples with full releases. An 8GB system may be used if the instrument is configured with truncated releases, limited loops, and perhaps some mono samples. For example, all samples loaded 16 bit mono, single loop, all releases, releases truncated to 2 seconds, occupies 4.1GB. 16 bit stereo, all loops, all releases, full length releases occupies 12GB. 24 bit samples will increase that to 17.7GB

I notice that for this and other CLR Resource sample sets only landscape oriented screen layouts are provided. Does anyone know if portrait oriented screens are planned for this and any of their other sample sets for delivery in the near future?

Does this set need a HW dongle update to run?

Thanks.

No portrait mode is a bit annoying actually. It's a pain to reorient my two screens.
