New Sample Set J. Bätz Zeist Holland

It is with pleasure that we wish to announce to the Hauptwerk Community the successful completion of our newest sample set of the Bätz organ of the Oude Kerk of Zeist, The Netherlands.

With construction of the current church, it was eventually decided to also build a new organ and in the same Gothic Revival style of the new church. Artistically this turned out to be a fortunate choice.
The organ, built by the organ builder J. Batz & Comp. was put into use on November 5, 1843.
In 1909, De Koff placed the bovenwerk inside a swell enclosure and replaced the Gemshorn 2' with a Voix Celeste 8' and the Trombone 8' with a Fagot 16'.
In 1977, Verschueren restored/conserved the organ using 1843 as starting point.

This instrument is what we would like to call a 'Dutch Romantic' instrument. It was built for musical accompaniment of the Congregation and therefor, this set works very well for the "Dutch Choral style" works of Feike Asma, Jan Zwart and others. One will immediately hear the unique sound of this instrument due to its remarkable tremulant.

Tremulants:
The orginal recorded tremulant makes the sound very warm and it comes really close to the famous Dutch organs of Bolsward and Hasselt. Especially those who love the Dutch hymn style of Feike Asma/Jan Zwart will certainly love the tremulant on this organ.
For even more realism we have recorded (with tremulant) a combination of the Holpijp 8', Fluit 4' and the Quint 3', a combination which is often used in the music of Asma/Zwart.

Perhaps not everyone appreciates the original tremulant on the Zwelwerk, therefor you can make a choice between an integral recorded tremulant and an adjustable modulated type.

Transmissions:
The Hoofdwerk has no tremulant at all on the real organ but for the enthusiast, we have added a modulated one.
However, we increased the possibilities even further by making transmissions of the stops from the swell to the Great so you are able to play the stops of the Swell on both manuals independently in order to have the recorded tremulant on cantus firmus as well as in the accompaniment. Windmodel:
The real organ has a lively and sometimes unstable wind when playing the full organ. This is a behaviour a lot of people like but it is very complicated to reproduce in Hauptwerk.
With our previous sample set of Lohman Heusden we already proved to have created one of the best windmodels available however with this sample set we have managed to create an even better result in our opinion. Extended stops:
For more flexibility we added a Fagot 16' on the Great.
Vox Celeste 8', Tertsfluit 1 3/5' and Schalmei 8' on the Swell.
Prestant 16' and Trombone 8' on the pedals. Most of those extensions are historically laible as they have been available on the organ in earlier days.

Unique 'tripple channel technology':
With samplesets having 'dual channel technic on the fly' beginning 'Hauptwerkers' (who do not have enough memory yet in their Hauptwerksystem) must then decide what to load. The choice would then be 1) very direct samples or 2) very indirect (wet) samples.
With that in mind we have chosen to record this organ with an extra 'middle' channel. Those who cannot load the entire set can load only the middle samples which gives a nice overall sound which is not too direct and not too distant.
Users who have 24 Gb or more can however load all channels and alter their listening point on the fly! For this reason there are 3 sliders on the virtual console so one can mix these three positions according to taste.
For practising one can use only the front channels which gives a very clear sound and accurate speech of the pipes. Normally you would add the rear(surround) samples for a more ambiant mix however we found that the 'middle' samples still add a lot in sound experience.

The 4th slider (with the caption "Vol-ZW") is definitely not a swell pedal but a volume control for the entire Swell. Using the button "Volume - RP Reset" switches it back to the normal volume.

The 5th slider controls the Swell.

Wind pressure: 70 mm
Tuning: a' = ca. 434 Hz. (Hauptwerk 433.5 Hz.)
Temperament: Equal. (Of course in Hauptwerk this can be switched another temperament)

We hope you like this new sampleset from Sygsoft Holland. It is unique due to its remarkable tremulant and the very realistic windmodel.
