Dingelstaedt

PostFri Mar 03, 2017 9:42 am

I have found the Dingelstaedt Organ from Sonus to be an excellent value and extremely realistic thanks to Jiri's 6 channel sound and individual sliders to adjust the front sound from direct to diffuse. Setting each manual division to different levels of direct/diffuse makes the divisions sound separated. Add the rear channels and realism abounds. Jake just completed some extensions for me that I feel really add to the set. He can be contacted at customhworgans@gmail.com for pricing and details. His work, as usual is excellent. The sample set does require considerable computer power.

Hi John,

Could you give some detail as to what you had Jake add / alter with the set in comparison to the original?

Thanks,

Marc

Loading the entire instrument, direct signal 16 bit, diffuse and surround signals 20 bit, I'm burning up all of about 28 GB of memory.

I'd guesstimate 20 bit all around would require about 34 GB, I tried once and ran short (but hey, it's worth a try!), I'm limited to 32.

Any chance of some demos of the extended instrument being posted on CCH? :D

Love to - don't feel competant enough. I will say the organ is a close replacement for a Skinner. Whatever you play on a Skinner sounds good here. In fact the principals are brighter and better. The strings with tuning are very good, but not of Skinner quality. To repeat - the surround is really quite good and frankly has me wishing for a surround on the Caen or Salisbury.

Do you mean 6 ch on the Caen? I like the 4ch version.

The 6 channel with slider adjustments for each organ division has spoiled me. Yes I like the 4 channel surround on the Caen - but he 6 channel sound is superb.

Honestly, the main reasons I bought Dingelstaedt was because it struck me as #1, very Skinner sounding and #2, a great all around 'church organ' to lead a congregation, something you'd hear at our local cathedral or basilica in a large and very pleasing acoustic. The price, sound and 6 channel stuff is all frosting on an already very well baked cake! :D
