Melbourne Town Hall virtual organ available now

PostWed Feb 28, 2018 4:15 pm

Dear All,

The Melbourne Town Hall virtual pipe organ is available now. This was our largest and most complex virtual organ development project to date.

Image

175 stops, 4 manuals and a pedal, additional floating divisions, 9592 pipes, all tremulants sampled, designed to fit into 64 GB and 32 GB computers when everything is loaded.

Here is more:

An unrestricted full compass combination-based rendering of the organ, called MTH Inspirations is also available for download, compatible with Hauptwerk Free.

The virtual instrument is dedicated to the memory of Stephen Phillips.
Yours truly,
Dr. Csaba Huszty

Dr Caaba

Could you please contact me, as I am having some trouble downloading files using filezilla
I keep getting an error message saying the Melbourne file is empty.

I am trying to figure out if the problem is on my end or yours, or if it is an operator (me) malfunction

Thanks

Dear Gerry,

I made a few adjustments at our end, just in case, please re-check if you can access the files now.
Yours truly,
Dr. Csaba Huszty

At long last I was able to download the 50gb or so, but still have no license update from Csaba. Multiple emails have been ignored. Brett responded immediate that no request is pending. $1,200 and change. NOT HAPPY.

Hello Steve,
All emails have been replied and license update notifications sent. Perhaps it went to your spam folders?

Re: Melbourne Town Hall virtual organ available now

I have just downloaded and installed the free group of six combination settings of MTH. The difference in sound volume from the delicacy of the quietest (set six) to the full organ setting - with lots of reeds (set four) is quite staggering.
I have heard the organ live many times and recall being astonished by the wall of sound I was confronted with, even when waiting in the rear foyer of the building.

Part of the explanation may be found in looking at a stop list.
It seems that this instrument has no less than SIX acoustic 32' stops:
Great 32' Contra Trombone 73 pipes
Swell 32' Contra Violone 12pipes + Swell 16' Violone
Pedal 32' Double Open Diapason 68 pipes
Pedal 32' Tibia Profunda 12 pipes + Great 16' Tibia Profunda
Pedal 32' Double Ophicleide 44 pipes
Pedal 32' Diaphone 44pipes
( Plus Pedal 64' Resultant derived from the Tibia Profunda above; plus a couple of other borrowed and Resultant 32' stops.)

My amateur research suggests that only the Naval Academy Chapel, Atlantic City and perhaps Wanamaker have as many or more 32' acoustic stops.
Are there any others....... anywhere??

I suspect that for most instruments space and wind supply are the limiting factors.

Hello Cooky,

These are the organs I am aware of having six 32' stops or more:

9 Atlantic City Convention Hall
8 Los Angeles First Congregational Church (HW sample set available from CLR Resources)
7 Philadelphia Macy's (''Wanamaker'') Store
7 West Point Academy Cadet Chapel
7 Salt Lake City Conference Center (Latter-Day Saints)
6 Washington National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
6 Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
6 Melbourne Town Hall
6 Pasadena Lake Ave Congregational Church

But talking about MTH Pro: I am also blown away by the unlimited possibilities of this awesome instrument! And the graphical presentation is a class of its own.

Congratulations to Csaba and his team for the fantastic achievement making this landmark instrument available for Hauptwerk!

Hello Steve,

I'm not involved in handling licence updates myself, but I see that we received notification from Csaba to enable your licence early this morning, so hopefully that should be processed later today.

I see that Gerryo's licence update was sent to him on the 27th February. Gerryo -- please check your email application's Spam/Junk folder if you didn't see that email.
Best regards, Martin.

Apologies if this seems a pedantic question, but can we clarify what you mean by "acoustic" 32' stops?
An "acoustic" 32' stop normally means 16' + a Quint, but that doesn't seem to be the case here, since all the ranks mentioned above appear to have the requisite number of pipes for a full-compass 32' stop.

Hello Steve,

Very sorry for the delay. Hopefully you won't have too much longer to wait now, and that you enjoy the sample set once you have it up and running. Thanks for your patience.
Best regards, Martin.

Hi Steve,

I recently had a similar problem. Brett claimed to have sent an update several times. I didn't get it and it was not in my spam folder. It turned out that the database for Hauptwerk keys still had an email address that was several years obsolete. That may be your problem. It's not enough to change your address on your forum profile and the general Hauptwerk mailing list. The database used for keys is evidently different and you have to explicitly request a change to it.

Good luck,
Al Morse
