Do organs still sell for that kind of price? As sad and unfortunate as it is, around here you can't give organs away.

The $70k is an asking price and likely negotiable. Secondly, the $70k would be dwarfed by the cost of properly reinstalling the instrument. Congregations are spending millions on pipe organs all the time with outfits like Dobson and others being booked way, way in advance. If there's a new organist and a member of the congregation with deep pockets then anything is possible.

The trend is away from pipe organs, no doubt about that. I've been following my twin brother's news as he serves on an organ committee in Nebraska. There are definitely organ builders who are too busy to chase new jobs. Outside of larger cities and university towns I imagine that there are virtually no new pipe organ installs.
