New Release: Large contemporary organ at very low cost

PostWed May 20, 2020 5:59 am

Dear all,

I am happy to announce the latest Pipeloops release, the 4/P 59 stops Weigle organ of the evangelische Stadtkirche in Nagold (Germany) originally built in 1971 and renewed in 2011/2012.

This sample set has been developed as part of a project "Singen Orgel 4.0" executed by the protestant parish in Nagold. The development of the sample set has been funded by the project, and therefore we can make it available to the community for a very low price (just 200€ plus tax). We are selling it on behalf of the church parish and most of the proceeds are flowing back directly to the church.

Please have a look at the details about this wonderful new release or check out the free trial version.

Demo recordings will be provided soon, in the meantime just try it out for yourself!

The sample set is using basic encryption, a separate iLok licence is not required.

Best regards
Reiner

Short update:
there was a denosing issue in the originally released version that lead to audible noise in the releases when playing rapid staccato chords at full registrations and then pause to listen for it (it was not really audible in normal music playing), also there were a few minor other issues with some samples. So I corrected these issues and put an updated version on the new server, you might want to give it a try. (You probably won't notice a difference unless you are specifically trying out the noise issue).
Have fun!

Interesting, a single manual auxiliary keyboard built into the organ case.

Not sure what you mean. Perhaps the separate choir organ which is single manual plus pedal? It sits in its own case quite a bit away from the main organ. It can be played from its own keyboard (mechanical action) or from the fourth manual of the main console (electrically). An interesting feature is that Hauptwerk and pedal of the main organ can also be played from the choir organ.

Yes, the choir organ, a neat feature you don't see very often.

After I had successfully installed the sampleset, adjusted the volume and set the mood to 2 cent as a spread, I was surprised by the outstanding sound of the full work, in particular the mixes, but also the very beautiful characteristic individual parts, a very clear, transparent recording at the right distance, an instrument that is mature. "Weigle" learned organ building from "Walcker" (Ludwigsburg) and this from "Sauer". This results in a development of the German, romantic organ building over 3 to 4 generations, which is a highlight with the successful renovation. “Mendelssohn” can be interpreted very well, but also the French romantics.
Many thanks to the manufacturer of the excellent recording.

"set the mood to 2 cent as a spread"

What does that mean?

It is the octave spread, for example: a1 = 440 Hz, a2 = 880.2 Hz, up is tuned higher, down is lower. This prevents the octave tones from merging and increases transparency. This tempering can be calculated with a "Hauptwerk temperament generator".

I read on the details page of your sample set that random detuning has been disabled because of lack of synchronisation between the perspectives.
I know from the past that there was a enhancement request to synchronise detuning for corresponding notes in the perspectives in later versions of Hauptwerk.
I don't know if that is adressed in version V . If that is the case then you could allow random detuning with this version of Hauptwerk.

Very interesting. How can this octave spread be applied to an existing HW temperament with the temperament generator?
Thanks.

For example you can use this temperament file generator for main work
http://www.atmos.cat/2x2/tremp.pl
set the spread to 2 cents and select Werkmeister III, the generated file must then be copied to the Temperaments folder under HW. You can then call and read them in under HW Pitch. This creates a slight beat in the octaves. This creates a soft, fuller sound impression.
