Free harmoniums in la Réunion

PostMon Nov 09, 2020 3:10 pm

Jean-Pierre Silvestre (Jepisi) has just put online two beautiful free sample sets of harmoniums.
- the first is a Debain harmonium that he restored for the chapel of the Dominican Sisters of St Denis de la Réunion. It conforms to the original: a single split keyboard with 7 stops for bass and 6 stops for treble.
- the second is an impressive compilation for 4 keyboards and pedals of 6 free sample sets, the Debain harmonium serving as the basis for keyboard I. These two sample sets are compatible with Hauptwerk 4 and 5 and the Debain can be opened in the free version of HW 4 (for those who have kept it). An interesting initiative in a French province in the Indian Ocean, which is sorely lacking in pipe organs.

Very interesting, thank you for the information! One question: what is the actual age of the instrument, when was it made?
I've read most of the documentation on Jean-Pierre Silvestre's site but either the information is not there or I have somehow missed it.

All that we know about the Debain hamonium from St Denis de la Réunion is that it was built around 1895 and that it was transported from Dax to the island of Réunion in 1958. Jean-Pierre Silvestre is trying to find out more.
