St. John's church organ (3 manuals/pedal 64 stops)

PostFri Jul 08, 2005 4:51 am

Hello everybody !

Despite having a lot of work to do, I would like to tell you about the next big "wet" PROSPECTUM sample set : It's going to be the fantastic organ of St. John's church in Vilnius, Lithuania.

This organ has been built by Rimantas Gucas (Vilnius) from 1983 to 2000 (yes, it took 17 years to build this organ !).
It does not only have a very special and characteristic sound, but there is as well a lot to be told about how and under which circumstances the organ has been build.

Please have a look at

http://prospectum.dyndns.org/stjohn/about.htm

for a picture and a stoplist of this very special instrument.

We plan to have the sample set ready in 01/2006.
Any profits that are made selling this sample set will be donated to the Gottlieb Casparini organ restauration society for the restauration of the famous 1776 organ in Vilnius (see http://goart.gu.se/cgi-bin/hpslev1/proj ... C0C678E4DE for details).

I am sorry my private server is down due to a power blackout.
So unfortunately the prospectum.dyndns.org link doesn't work at the moment.

I hope to "revive" it on monday.

2 questions:

1) are you planning to release it in HW2 only?

2) is it possible to have a preview of the organ sound (I mean a short piece of music recorded at the organ - so not in hauptwerk)?

Thanks!

1) I would like to continue offering HW1 sample sets as long as people are interested in them. The only problem is that HW1 doesn't support multiple loops. Well, we should be able to solve this problem by using a little program that keeps the longest loop in a wav-file and disposes all the others.

2) This should not be a problem. I'll record some short pieces of different style.

Thanks, I think that the HW1 version of big organs make sense also if HW2 is released.

prospectum news

PostWed Oct 19, 2005 1:43 am

Hi,

I think we will be able to record the instrument in November, together with a smaller but absolutely breathtaking Dutch organ.

At the moment I have to work very hard for the Pipe Analysis and Resynthesis Software. For that reason all recording activities have been delayed.

I am now experimenting with stereo simulation and recording impulse responses as well (for the "dry library"). It seems to require some experience to get a good IR. However, I am making progresses there.

I have no idea about when we will be able to release the next sample set - but I think I can promise that it is worth waiting, as all new PROSPECTUM sets will be multilayer processed with OPAL, which leads to very high quality sets with regard to sound quality and noise.
(We plan to offer a free 2 stop "normal vs. multilayer processing" sample set of one single stop for comparison.)
And last but not least I regard the organs themselves as very interesting.

As soon as the recordings are made, there will be a "progress" page on my private webserver that will show how we get on.

That's a good news Gernot will be able to find some time for this great instrument !

The 1747 Adam Ehrlich organ from prospectum is really excellent (to my opinion, of course): I enjoy it very much.
I'm eager for hearing the result of the very big Vilnius instrument !
