Seeking USA/CA Vendor for AGO Organ Bench

PostMon Jul 20, 2015 9:05 am

Can anyone identify vendors for an AGO organ bench? The vendor would need to prepare and ship (perhaps by UPS) to Massachusetts, USA.

I've been searching the internet for new or used benches. It proves hard to find a seller or kind donor for a used one who has the wherewithal or interest to prepare it for shipping or to arrange shipping. Most are "come and get it" at interplanetary distances.

For new benches, I've found only Classic MIDI Works and Martin Digital. Although new benches appear in the catalogs of organ part dealers or makers, most appear not to sell retail to end users.

Any suggestions for alternative vendors, web links, or recommendations for specific bench models would be most helpful.

Thanks!

Are you looking for a bench with a crank for height adjustment? That's really all there is to an AGO bench apparently...

From the AGO spec:

Bench: Normal height above middle E of
pedal clavier, 20 1/2 in., adjustable up or
down from this height by as much as 2 in.
in either direction by means of a crank.

The crank mechanism adds a lot of cost to a bench. Bench blocks have served well for (likely) hundreds of years...

Just looking for a bench that will fit over an AGO pedal board. Nothing cranky. I suspect it would cost less to have one of my vertebrae removed or another added, than it would be to pay for a crank mechanism.

Why not try and find a local woodworker and have one built to your specifications?

I made my own, it wasn't expensive.

Hi Nick,

Not at all a bad idea--can't possibly cost more than the new ones I've seen from retailers.

Nick,
Thanks for the link to your bench drawing. That looks very doable even for my local neighborhood woodworker.
Kind regards,
Morgen
