A streaming Contrebombarde?

PostThu Sep 17, 2015 2:29 pm

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a streaming version of the contrebombarde library? Most of the uploads, nearly all of them, are in a format that streaming software would have no problem dealing with them. One way to configure it would have it play through the entire library, rinse and repeat! :)

Can you flesh that out a bit? Technically, the music already "streams".

Are you talking about just pressing "play" on the browse page and having it play one after another until finished?

Thanks,

Darryl

+1 I'd really like to be able to listen to the days (weeks?) submissions as a play through rather than having to click on each one. Might also be a clever way to design commenting on that stream such that commenters are dwelling together a bit more -- which might encourage more community rather than just specific comments on recordings.

c.f. some of the sports blogs and their "Game Day Threads" which exist only for the commenters.

a reasonable example:

Honestly, adding a "Play next automatically" checkbox to the "playmusic" page (e.g. http://www.contrebombarde.com/concertha ... usic/17824) would quite possibly get you 95% of the way there.

That being said, I am not a web programmer and have no idea how hard this is :-)

I might also worry a bit about the effects on the community. The song ending and me needing to click to the next one is also my prompt to comment -- I might not comment as much if they all just play through!

Also an interesting thought. We do like it when people comment... more importantly, whomever uploads the piece really appreciates the comment.

I really like the idea though technically difficult I would imagine.

Imagine you set a filter to play music from the baroque and romantic epochs, it would be difficult to ensure that not every 2nd or 3rd piece would be the same Bach toccata by different contributors. Considering that the titles are not standardized it makes an "intelligent" parsing algorithm to avoid duplicates quite tricky I would assume.

Ignoring the technical difficulties I like the idea of a contrebombarde "spotify".

I tried this out today. Works great, especially the embedded commenting functionality. Thank you!

It created a playlist of only 20 pieces. A page full, in fact.

Is that what it is supposed to do? I was hoping to run through all 38 pages!

For now, change your default view from 20 pieces to 50 pieces. That will more than double what you've got now. We'll take a look at seeing about facilitating even longer lists.
