I would be very interested to hear any comments from people who have bought this sample set.

Although this set is "stereo" I would assume that the HW multi-channel sound facility will spread the output across the available (and configured) outputs; I guess there are only single stereo .wav files for each note (and for each of the sampled tremulant notes).

I would also like to know if it comes with "portrait" format left and right stop screens for use with touch screens.

Will there be an upgrade path from this first version to the "professional" (surround sound) version and will this be no more expensive than the difference in price of the two versions?

Thanks for any information.

Hello Ian,

Thank you for your interest. The sample-set comes with 3 stop screens, 1 for use with a single touchscreen with an logical order of stops, and 2 for left and right touch screens with the original stop order like they are placed on the real Muller.

The update price to surround will be announced later.

Best Regards,

Roland

Thanks.

I have looked at the web site and it appears that the left and right screens are designed for landscape displays. Are you going to provide portrait layout displays as well as the landscape displays on the web site?

Since the cost of the sampleset is relevant, what about a demo set in order to test it?

Certainly a major instrument, but its requirements in terms of RAM make it out of reach for me -

16bit multi loops compressed: 15.9 Gb RAM (default)
20bit multi loops compressed: 28.8 Gb RAM
24bit multi loops compressed: 30.6 Gb RAM
24bit multi loops uncompressed: >40 Gb RAM

I'm amazed to compare this 64-stop instrument RAM consumption whereas Kampen's 55-stop sample set fits well in my Mac Mini's 16 GB RAM @ 24 bit. Indeed, there has been some technical evolution since Kampen has been sampled, yet the gap is really huge...

I don't think there will be a demo set. From there website: If the sampleset not what you expected you can cancel you purchase within 14 days for the cost of 15 euros (dongle update and handling).
So you can "test" the full set for only 15 euro for two weeks.

The manual compass is extend to 54 notes (original 51), also two couplers are added: Positief + Hoofdwerk and Positief + Bovenwerk.

I own this set now for a few weeks and I'm very happy with it. It has a very clear sound with much detail, with big and small stop combinations. The positions of the manual divisions are very notable. Overall I think it is a very good set for practice. The surround version will have a slider, so one can move the listening position. Some people commented that the stereo sounds different compared to down in the nave, they missed the ambient component of the sound. For studying I think too much ambient/accoustic sound will make it very tiresome.

As every organ it has its oddities. The HW Tertiaan is 2 + 1 3/5 (not 1 3/5 + 1 1/3) since it has no separate principal at 2 foot pitch, the Pedal Ruyschquint has a tierce rank and is rather loud as is the Bazuyn 32 (I turned them a little down with HW voicing).
The Bovenwerk Cymbaal is also with tierce rank. I find the HW Scherp (added by Marcussen in 1962) not very useful but the Pedaal Mixtuur (also added by Marcussen) is more useful. The Pedal couplers are also additions, original there were none. For most Bach works I hardly use them.

Martijn

Where did you get this information? On the website I read: 24 Bit multi loops compressed 62 GB RAM for the surround version.

Sorry to ask again but...

They must have updated it since then. When I looked yesterday morning it also said "uncompressed 24Bit: >100GB" with no details about how it would look compressed.

From the website (http://www.voxusorgans.com/en/product/haarlem , look under "features"):

Requirements Professional-extended:

Hauptwerk Advanced 4.1
16bit multi loops compressed: 31 Gb RAM (default)
20bit multi loops compressed: 55 Gb RAM
24bit multi loops compressed: 62 Gb RAM

Also from http://www.voxusorgans.com/sites/defaul ... 20Info.pdf :

Slider
It is possible to adjust the listening location in the church with
the Professional-extended edition. This can be achieved by moving
the slider, which is found in the Control tab. This function works
optimally when you use a stereo headphone or speakers. When you
have a quadraphonic sound system with minimally 4 speakers (2
front and 2 rear) we do not advice to use this feature. When the sli-
der is moved upwards, the organ sounds closer. When the slider is
moved down, you will change the listening position further away
from the organ. According to taste, you can experiment with the
slider’s position’s effect on more direct or indirect sound.

Apparently also the manual compass has been extended to 56 tones, C-g3 (before 54 notes, C-f3)

31 GB is a lot !
So it would be useful to know :
1) how much memory it takes in 14 bits compressed
2) if the resulting sound is OK in 14 bits for this sample set.

It would also be interesting to have demos ( there are, I think, only 3 at present), featuring the organ in its complete configuration and also,of course, the different acoustics . ( Lavender or Hauptwerk NL are good examples).

I found this on the dutch forum:
Wet: https://soundcloud.com/pieter-12/cornel ... ofessional
Surround: https://soundcloud.com/pieter-12/cornel ... m-extended

surround is 50/50 (front/rear)

I installed the surround version of the Müller organ. With front and rear in 24 bit compressed for the manuals, and 20 bit for the pedal, it fits into the 61.5GB free memory Hauptwerk is offering on my 64 GB system after start of Hauptwerk. The result is fantastic and a big improvement over the stereo version for large registrations. I can only second all the positive statements made on the Dutch forum.

I wonder, that nobody so far has commented on the two nice bonuses contained in the sample set (easter eggs?) - one seems to be a recording of the St. Bavo carillon (I made it available on the fourth manual), and the other is the two bells called Damiaatjes, in former times used to indicate the closing of the city gates.
