For those of you that might be interested in Audio over IP, I just got my level 1 certification and will begin a Hauptwerk installation utilizing audio over a stand alone LAN with Dante boxes from Attero Tech.

Hello Luis,

Dante was developed for the A/V industry to carry audio over a wired ethernet. No Wi-Fi yet. Dante is an audio-over-ethernet system which allows connecting the Hauptwerk computer to the speaker system via Cat5e/Cat6 cable up to 100 meters long. There is a software Virtual Sound Card which provides ASIO(PC), WDM (Windows audio) & Core Audio (OS-X) compatibility to send the Hauptwerk audio from the Console to the Speaker area over one CAT5e cable. In the speaker area there is a non-blocking, level 2 network switch which sends the appropriate signals to input/output modules (4 channels per module) to produce analog audio for the speakers/amplifiers. In a 100Mbps ethernet network the limit is about 64 channels but in a 1Gbps network the possibility rises to 512 channels.

We use Dante (and AVB) on systems all the time for my job.

It is AWESOME to see how far digital audio has come in such a short period of time! The limits are slowly being rolled so far out that it seems almost limitLESS anymore.

Yes it is amazing to see how things are progressing in the Audio over Ethernet world. Since I tend to be a PC guy Dante is a little more attractive than AVB but they are pretty similar. Did you consider it for the church audio system?

BTW while waiting for delivery of the Dante boxes I spent some time online and got the Level 2 certification. It is all online now even the practical test. You might want to look into it yourself.

Yes, my company is on us to get as many certs as possible - particularly CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D and Dante. I have mine for BiAmp (DSP processors) but not Dante. We are starting to use a lot of Dante gear - in fact, I have been out of state for several weeks now working on a project utilizing the new Shure microphone ceiling tiles over Dante (http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/microflex-advance/mxa910-ceiling-array-microphone)

I was looking at AVB for my church setup (MOTU 24a/o) but if these Dante devices get cheaper, I might just go that route.
