Replacing a clock

I have a Rodgers 22D that I have converted to be a Hauptwerk VPO. There was a mechanical digital (turning drums) clock. It was visible through an opening. It died and I removed it. Now I have a opening 3 1/2 inch wide opening that is 1 1/8 inches tall. What can I put in that space? Is there some display that could be put there or...

Close but would need a slight amount of wood working (and possibly a bezel) as would making a blank wood "cover piece".
