New organ recording

PostWed May 17, 2017 4:10 pm

We are very pleased to announce the forthcoming recordings of the 1927 Adema-organ at the 'Basiliek van de Heilige Kruisverheffing' in Raalte (Holland). More information and disposition
(in Dutch) you can find here: https://tinyurl.com/kvupvbb.
This organ (III/43) is one of the largest Adema organs in the Netherlands and it sounds quite post-romantic. Organ-builder Adema (since 1854) is still one of the main builders in the Netherlands. Their organs are based on the (symphonic) principles of Cavaillé-Coll and this will be the first sampleset of an organ made by Adema..
We will start recording this organ for Hauptwerk at June 10 2017. The final sampleset will appear somewhere in 2018. The first 2-channel version will be a mix of the front -and (semi)rear samples. Later on (in phase two) we will add the main rear-samples which will lead to a complete 4-channel version. The basilica has a reverberation about 7 seconds. A sound-example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j6mQz1x8eI

Kind regards,
Danny

The Adema organs I have heard so far are all quite exciting.
Good luck with this project!

But 7 seconds of reverb? Quite challenging to nevertheless keep the virtual organ transparent enough, without losing the grandeur that such great acoustics provides!

A Hauptwerk sequencer would have been useful during that concert. Quite a pallete of subtly bold tonal "flavors". Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing and best wishes on this ambitious project.

Hi Adri,
Yes, it's quite a challenge but I am sure we will capture this transparent enough without any loss of the original acoustics. According to our latest thoughts the organ will be recorded with 9 microphones (varying from in front of the organ towards spread in the church) and I already made a set-up plan for a proper setup.

Kind regards,
Danny
