Forum Navigational Line Missing?

PostSat Jun 24, 2017 8:07 am

Hello All,

Has the top Forum navigational line gone missing? It's the line that allows you to step back levels ie. from "General Discussion" to the overall Forum Menu. The bottom navigational aid is still there.

Hello Bob,

Brett updated the forum to change its top banner to advertise the summer sale, but as far as I can see that hasn't had any other effect on the forum controls or layout. The navigational line with the 'breadcrumbs' (menu of levels) etc. is still present just below the banner. If you aren't able to see that, perhaps try refreshing your browser's cache. I don't recall there being another line there, although I could be mistaken. You can use those 'breadcrumbs' to jump up straight to any higher level.
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks Martin,

I did a browser reset/refresh, nothing changed. Currently at the top of this post (above the title- Forum Navigational Line Missing?) I see "View unanswered posts . View active topics. View new posts . View your posts. Nothing else.

At the bottom of the post I see "<Return to Board Index" I thought there was a "back one level" navigational aid at the top also???

Regards,

Bob

Well, this is interesting. I accessed the forum using Firefox and the navigational aids are there. Using my normal Internet Explorer 11, they are not there. I again cleared cache, etc. and they are still gone. I guess I will have to resort to using the browser's back button.

I see the line "Board index < General ...etc. which you don't apparently see. That's on my iPad.

I'm missing the navigation line as well on Safari. It's an inconvenience as the browser's back arrow doesn't produce a refreshed page. I just checked Chrome and don't see the navigation bar there either.

Definitely a minor problem.

On Windows 10 with latest browser versions--

Chrome:

Edge:

FireFox

No difference logged in or not.

Thanks for the details.

I use Firefox, which is presumably why it still appears normally to me.

Ideally Brett will need to look at it, since he'll know what it was he updated. He's away for the next couple of weeks, so unless it's causing anybody a major problem in the meantime, it would probably be best to wait until he's back. I'll ask him to have a look. In the meantime (for non-Firefox users) the work-around would appear to be just to use the browser's 'back' button, or to use the navigational links at the bottom of the forum.

Thanks again and our apologies for any inconvenience.
Best regards, Martin.

Here's the problem line:

Code: Select all
<ul class="linklist navlinks" style="margin: -10px 0 10px;">
   <li class="icon-home"><a href="./index.php" accesskey="h">Board index</a> </li>
</ul>

style="margin: -10px 0 10px;" is the culprit. Removing that style fixes both Chrome and Edge. In particular, the value of -10px for the top margin. I did this in Chrome and Edge's development tools with this result:

Turning that margin style off in FF simply moves the line down by 10 px as expected.

I am also missing the line (using Microsoft Edge) - and it is inconvenient.

Thanks all for the diagnostics and sorry again for the problem. I've sent a message to Brett with the details in case he's able to have a look. I'll see what we can do.

I tried the View unread posts and that works good for my needs. I try to at least glance at every post so this saved me scrolling to the bottom of the screen. Yeah, inconvenient but hardly something that cannot wait a couple of weeks.

Thank you, Brett!

Yes, it was only a minor inconvenience having to click at the bottom of the page instead of the top - but if you knew how long it took me to get used to having the direction indicator and windscreen-washer stalks on the opposite sides of the steering-wheel when I swapped my car ...

Best regards

Graham
