External sequencer

PostFri Jan 26, 2018 3:44 pm

Has anyone here tried using the SMP MIDI sequencer by MIDI Botique with Hauptwerk? I am looking for a sequencing solution when using organs that don’t have monitors connected. I have also considered the Syndyne Profiler, but it is much more costly than the one from MIDI Botique.

Thanks,
Bryan

My son uses the Midi Boutique device at his church to play hymns etc when there is no organist available (and I have recorded some for him). The device connects to an old Makin digital organ. It works well in his set up. He tells me he uses the "speed control" when I've played the hymns a little too quickly when recording them.

Thanks for the info Iain. So is the Makin Organ running Hauptwerk?

The Makin uses its own sound production system. I was really saying the device recorded and replayed midi reliably.

Bryan,

Have you investigated the hardware sequencer sold by Artisan Organs?

Yes, I have looked at it. Do you use it? I just can’t see enough details....such as what the screen display is like, and what the user interface works. The manual only downloads the first page for some reason. But I would be interested to know if you can name the files and create playlists.

Hi,

I have successfully used PowerTracks from PG Music, the makers of Band-in-a-Box, for years and even have managed to make sheet music for 'Fake Books' from it. James Pressler and I used it to produce MIDI files for playing Hauptwerk organs by making PT look like a console and then letting the Hauptwerk MIDI system reformat the sequences into HW friendly files. If I were to start again I would get the latest Power Tracks and a small notebook to play it and go from there.

Another option might be to use an iPad or other tablet with iRig MIDI 2. It looks to me like this provides MIDI output/input from tablets via standard MIDI cables. Although I have not really looked into it, I assume there must be a choice of iOS / Android apps for playback. Just a thought......maybe someone else has experience of this type of setup.
