Studio monitors don't work If plugged all the way in

PostMon May 14, 2018 10:53 pm

Greetings,

I apologize I am still on the learning curve of audio setups, but currently my studio monitors do not work if plugged in all the way using the 1/4" Jack input. I have tried two different audio interfaces (presonus audio box/motu ultralite hybrid). The monitors are Mackie hr824mkII. Is it possible this has something to do with shielded vs nonshielded cables? When I plug the cord all the way in the speakers are inaudible they are so quiet. If I turn up the volume they crackle horribly. They work when I pull out the cable one "click"

It sounds as if you are not using balanced cables. The 22VSL end would be a tip-ring-sleeve as opposed to just a tip and a sleeve. The best connector for the monitor end would be XLR which will again have three connections instead of just two. There are other connection possibilities for single ended (unbalanced) operation that are probably described in the Mackie manual.
