Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on this project, as it is still very much a live and well.

Funding is underway and we are on a great path to having the entire project fully funded. Of course, as expected, this is the area that is a bit of a waiting game as all of the "committees" get all of the financial logistics worked out.

We very quickly reached 50% of our fundraising merely through generous private individuals. Now we are going to host a few fundraising events, concerts, programs, etc. and should hopefully have this thing paid for 100% free and clear very soon - debt free!

In the meantime, if anyone is interested in getting involved and has any interest in supporting the project, you can visit http://www.greenwoodumcmusic.org/Donate.html to make a donation. (Not sure if this is against forum rules or not.... if so, I will take it down). If you happen to be in the Indianapolis area, let me know and I will try to keep you updated on upcoming events as they become available.

I will hopefully get around to adding a Hauptwerk Organ Blog on that site to track progress. New works are being written/arranged for the premier concert and dedication service as well.

Still trying to narrow down some sample sets. The new SP Casavant would be very welcome in that space, I think.

So very excited for what is to come!

Thank you, all!

Update:

The project is - for all intents and purposes - fully funded! We had our first fundraiser last weekend but we already had 90% of the funds raised by that point entirely from individual contributions! I love this congregation. I love working WITH them. They are a terrific group of folks!

I have begun the process of finalizing the design/engineering of the audio system and other components. A fully-detailed AutoCAD drawing of the entire schematic - from key switching all the way to speaker output - is being done by one of the draftsmen that I work with.

I mocked up a basic 3D rendering of the audio system and the inside of the sanctuary. Pictures can be found here: http://greenwoodumcmusic.org/Hauptwerk_Organ.html

Hopefully within the next couple of months all the equipment will start showing up.

QUESTION ABOUT MACS AND TOUCHSCREENS
I have been debating whether or not to get a rebuilt MAC from iBuildMacs.com or just build a new Windows PC. The nail in the coffin for MAC is that I am having trouble finding suitable touchscreens that are guaranteed to work. Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Thank you!

UPDATES:

I have moved away from my GoDaddy server space so all of the previous images in this forum thread will no longer appear. However, much of everything is still documented on the new site at:

https://www.greenwoodumcmusic.org/hauptwerk-organ

The console is nearing completion. The MINI LCDs and HWCE2X setup from MGB is being installed.

I found some beautiful LCD bezels that fit nicely! Check out the pictures in the above link.

https://www.tindie.com/products/WIDGENEERING/16x2-lcd-bezel-with-clear-backplate/

The computer is also built.

Audio components are all en-route. I think I overwhelmed our Behringer supplier because they are still trying to fill the order but they should be on their way soon.

Things are looking great!

Excellent work as usual Drew :). What will you use to power this sub? Also, have you hooked up any of the 48 Behringer studio monitors yet?

Danny, no I have not. I have been flying back and forth to DC for work over the last month or so, and haven't had time. However, I have drafted the designs for the shelves, and a couple of men from church and I are going to set up shop in one of the back rooms of the church and start building in the next few weeks.

Hello everyone. I wanted to post some updates.

The electricians have just about finished up the wiring for the speakers, and I plan on spending the next several days getting all 48 of the Behringer monitors up there and wired up.

I opted for putting them on shelves, mounted to the brick wall, slightly above the top of the wooden panels.

I will post some updated pictures once they are up.

We also built some large speaker-cloth screens that will cover the entire speaker box, making it look like one big cloth-wrapped box.

Here are some additional pictures of various things throughout the build over the last several months.....

Seeing that many Behringer monitors at one time was overwhelming!

Image

I used the MGB MINI LCDs and a cool-looking bezel I found online.
Image

I mounted the MIDI hardware to black acrylic and attached that to the Allen's original slide-out trays in the belly of the console.
Image

The new computer. 8-Core, 64GB RAM
Image

I reused the "setterboard" from the old organ but it controls various Hauptwerk functions. The left setterboard will control stand/pedal lights, and theater organ traps/toys.
Image

I built a rack out of spare parts - free rack rails from the scrap pile at work, and a few pieces of wood. Saved us $500
Image

The console taking shape.... (still needs a bit of touching up in the finishing... I am going to let someone else take care of that since I'm not great at it.)

I will post more pictures of the speaker setup in the next few days as it comes together!

Also, I went all the way back through this thread and updated most of the picture links so they work again.

Looking good!

I'm currently playing on an old Rodgers installed in 1970 and boy does this look exciting. We have a chamber up in the loft and I'd love to do something like this...

Well, it has been an awesome few weeks of testing and experimenting! I have decided that "mostly dry" sets are definitely the way to go, so I am ready to buy some sample sets. Of everything that I've tired out, Armley Schulze (thanks to Danny B) and the little Paramont 310 are among my favorites that I've tried out. I recently tried out the demos of the SP Reuter (which I think will work well for our day-to-day use), the new Silver Octopus 125 (just too big), and a couple of others.

I am still working with routing. I'm not sold on any one configuration yet. I want to do more experimenting with stereo vs. mono, and audio groups.

I am thinking of purchasing the following: (feel free to throw in your two cents worth)

- Reuter - Sonus Paradisi
- Caen - Sonus Paradisi (dry)
- Goerlitz Sonnenorgel - Sonus Paradisi (truncated)
- Armley Schulze (57 stop single channel)
- Paramount 341

I wouldn't mind having a small to medium sized baroque organ. Thoughts?

The console is being touched up by a local cabinet maker over the next couple of weeks, and after that, I am thinking I am going to rebuilt my TubaHT and do a better job this go around.

Right now, my biggest issue is voicing and audio routing. When playing on small registrations, it sounds great. But when you really lay on the stops, it tends to get a big mid-low range bump that I find annoying. I'm not sure if this is EQing that needs to be addressed in the Behringer monitors, or if its distortion from all the voices playing at once. I hope to get this ironed out in the next week.

ALSO, IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA, PLEASE POINT THEM MY DIRECTION. I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME OTHER HAUPTWERK FOLKS/ORGANISTS TO COME PLAY AND OFFER UP SOME FEEDBACK!

Hi Drew, it's good to hear from you again and to see the magnificent progress you have made!

Regarding the "low to mid bump" you referred to, as you know I don't claim to be knowledgeable on speakers! But in looking into building them, I found out about why multiple smaller woofers are used in speakers now as opposed to the large, single woofers in vintage speakers. It seems that when multiple woofers are close together they fortify the bass, acting as a larger woofer. Could this, or something similar be what is going on?

I know you have gone to a lot of trouble setting up the speaker shelves as they are, but perhaps they need a little more "breathing room" between them. I don't know how to check that, perhaps rewiring a few speakers in the current line-up. I hope that, if I am right, it might be as simple as an extra shelf and some more space between the monitors!

Then again, what do I know? :D

Good job! And good luck my friend,
Scott
