Any comments on HW2 Marcussen?

PostWed Mar 21, 2007 11:11 am

Since no demos of the HW2 version of the 1965 Marcussen organ are posted on the aH website (or anywhere else that I know of), can any users of this set advise their impressions? I'm particularly interested in the opinions of folks who upgraded from the HW1 version i.e. are there any particularly noticeable improvements or changes (other than the upgraded GUI).

Thanks!

I'm glad to know, from the information below, that Ariaan is okay, and it's an interesting way to market a product. Since no requirements are posted for the HW2 version on his website, I'll have to ask here. Would it run comfortably in 1.5 GB memory, and is it encypted?

Ariaan sent the HW2 version to me at the beginning of december 2006. I am very satisfied with it.

Ouch! I sent the 30 euro for the upgrade one week ago via PayPal and have not heard anything yet. I remembered that someone on the forum had commented on ordering the HW2 upgrade some time ago. Perhaps it was Uwe. I still believe the sondfont version tremolo is the best I have heard yet on any sample set.

Hello Uwe,

Is there a significant difference in sound quality between the HW V2 version of this sample set and playing the HW V1 version in Hauptwerk 2?

Erik.

I got the HW2 version at the beginning of December also, and yes, there is a very significant improvement in sound quality over the v.1 set. The whole instrument is much more realistic and the upperwork in particular much cleaner.

Just received an e-mail from aH and the samples are "in the mail" - all is well.

Is there any blower noise or key and stop action?

Best regards,

I find it interesting that the Marcussen Pedal division has a Principal 16 but no Bourdon 16.....and there is no 16 foot stopped rank anywhere else that could be coupled to the Pedal. Is the pedal Principal voiced to fill the role typically played by a Bourdon -- i.e. relatively mild, with reasonably prompt speech?

Hello JPSmith,

you are right, it's curious that there is no "mild" 16 foot in pedal. For my purposes I added a Subbass 16' from another sample set with CODM.

I could do with a quieter 16' on the pedal as well (and maybe an 8' also). Which sample set did you take it from and are you pleased with the result?

Also, the pedal basun's bottom 12 notes are much louder and more buzzy than the rest of the compass. The change from b natural to c is very noticeable. I don't see how it can be anything to do with my setup. Any thoughts anyone?

Are you using the HW1 or HW2 version of the Marcussen samples? I am curious whether issues like this have been addressed in the upgrade.
Of course, if this abrupt change in volume/tonality of the Basun exists in the actual instrument it probably wouldn't get "fixed" in the samples -- but I'd be surprised if this were the case in a well-maintained Marcussen organ.

If you are running the Concert edition of HW you could presumably voice out the abrupt change in loudness, if not the change in buzziness.

Hello bigwold,

I took the Subbass from the Johann Adam Ehrlich sample set and the result is very good.
