Two 18th. Century English Chamber Organs released

PostWed May 08, 2019 6:40 pm

Silver Octopus are pleased to announce the release of two 18th. century chamber organs. The first is by John Avery dating from 1792 and the second is by James Davis dating from 1790.
The Avery has five stops and the Davis nine, of which some registers are split into bass and treble halves on each organ. Both instruments are single manual and retain the long compass down to low G up to F giving a total of 59 notes in each. The larger Davis also has a long compass based pedal board. Tuning for the Avery is Meantone 5th. comma and the Davis is close to 10th. comma. The sets have been presented in equal temperament so that end users can choose their own preferred tuning.
Each sample set is recorded from the players perspective or from a medium distance listeners standpoint. Either position can be selected as an individual set or as a combined set for those with rear speaker set-ups. Each sample set is presented wet with original acoustics although those are fairly minimal in each case.
Trial sets of both instruments (with a limited compass of 2.5 octaves) are available at:

THIS FOLDER CONTAINS ORIGINAL OLDER HW IMAGES WHICH ARE NOT PROVIDED IN SOME OF THE LATER EDITIONS OF HW.

Can you explain this? Is this of HW software, or of sample sets by third parties? I am aksing as I am a very early HW user.

Thanks.

The inclusion of the duplication of the original 0001 folder was put in because (erroneously) I thought that a couple of the images were not provided or were different in the latest editions of HW. However, I discovered subsequently that this was not the case. On comparing the image files in the older and newer 0001 package from HW it would seem that all of them remain exactly the same in the later editions. It doesn't make any difference to the operation of HW or the sets themselves so I have now removed that information from the page.
Any images that do differ are included in their own "images" file in each of the new sets so it's irrelevant anyway.
