Looking for a special birthday gift for an organist... What are the best books written on organs, organ builders, organ music, playing techniques, etc.. Any ideas appreciated!!

For general interest:
https://www.amazon.com/Organ-Encycloped ... B00K1GW5T2

The hardcover is very expensive, but it's also in paperback at a more reasonable price.

If you can narrow the recipient's interests a bit there could be many others. Any favorite schools or periods? Would it be better about composers, music, or organs and organ builders?

If everything fails you can always buy some sheet music from P.D.Q. Bach :-D
Also, depending on the humour (and the ability to play the recorder) of the recipient you might want to have a look at Peter Planyavsky's "Drei Miniaturen für Pedalblockflöte" (here is a link to a German online shop: https://www.stretta-music.com/en/planya ... 57988.html I do not know if this has an ISMN), three very nice pieces where the organist plays the pedal with his feet and a recorder with his hands.

mnailor's list includes "E. Power Biggs, Concert Organist".

A few months ago, I borrowed it from a university library. I so enjoyed learning much more detail about Biggs' career, internal motivations and outlook that I bought a copy to keep.

If biographies are appreciated, I'd recommend it highly.

If your interest is the English organ, this book is a fascinating, entertaining and highly informative read.

Here's an interesting book from New Zealand (plenty of reviews and page grabs on the site);

A calendar could be just the thing;

Even organ related coffee mugs etc here;

and...jigsaw puzzles!

I have found the https://organhistoricalsociety.org to be invaluable for finding really interesting books on the subject ranging from Atlantic City and Wanamaker to individual builders and their stories. Apart from the many "obscure" books on the instrument itself, they also have books covering organists and organ music plus CD's etc..
