1852 William B.D. Simmons - now available!

PostSun Mar 22, 2020 7:18 pm

We are pleased to release the 1852 Simmons for HW5:
http://www.evensongmusic.net/?page_id=3113

Introductory price $99 through March 31st, $129 thereafter

Memory requirements:
16-bit compressed 1.7gb
24-bit compressed 3.3gb

An impulse response is included, recorded at the rear of the venue - we suggest varying the wet percentage (I find I prefer 35-50%).

Best to all!

Purchased and enjoying it!

A small note: It seems some of the releases on the Swell tremmed Open Diapason are noticeably louder than the sustain part of the pipe samples. The sustain part is a lot quieter than without trem. That can be adjusted so the sustains match between tremmed and not, but then the tremmed release is very loud.

Don't know that I've ever used a tremmed Open, so no big deal...

Fist of all, thanks for your purchase, and glad you’re enjoying the set.

Secondly, it’s always polite to first send any bugs you find to the developer rather than posting then publicly to a forum... I tend to refrain from that myself unless said developer ignores me and refuses to fix things...

We really don’t want users to be de facto beta testers, but sometimes things do slip through.... email us, we’ll look into it (we are releasing a fix shortly to deal with some minor issues).

Thanks in advance,

Really enjoying this set! I find it to be very beautiful for Mendelssohn, Wesley, etc. Tonally it's likely very much like some of the instruments Mendelssohn would have encountered in England. Back in the 70s, Thomas Murray did a beautiful recording of three of the Mendelssohn Sonatas on the Simmons in East Boston (and the other three on the Hook in Jamaica Plain).

Glad you’re enjoying it, David.

Those Murray recordings were some of the favorites of my youth. Wish I actually had them (I checked out the records from the library!)

David Enos has posted a wonderful Mendelssohn piece using this organ on CB:

Lovely playing, thanks David.

Paul Fey has done a wonderful demo of the stops on this organ:

He also did a version with added reverb, which shows how the character can change drastically

Thanks, Paul!

Succeeded after more retries.

I'm trying to download the LAUMC May 28, 2020 update from google drive using chrome, and it stops without an error message every time. Or the error flashes by too quickly to see.

Is there a preferred download method or tool for this on Windows 10?

Thank you.
