And the award for "best ever VPO console" goes to:

PostFri Dec 18, 2020 4:52 pm

...Bernard Aubertin. Yep, the master builder of French baroque organs has just built a virtual pipe organ console. Here it is:

https://youtu.be/XJm6xnpbSc0

A three manual console, complete with mechanical key action, playing samples of the 1783 Clicquot at Souvigny. Question is, which is the real organ console and which is the virtual replica?

Playing the pedal solos in BWV 540 on it would probably be tricky

A wonderful demonstration.

"Banque de son installée pour la démonstration : orgue de La Chaise-Dieu (dont plusieurs jeux ont été copiés sur l’orgue de Souvigny). Cette banque de son a été finalisée en 2019 par M. Joseph Basquin."

J Basquin is the founder of Jeux d'Orgues (https://www.jeuxdorgues.com/?lang=en), and produced the not-yet-released Sample Set used in the Demo. Apparently this one: La Chaise-Dieu Abbatiale Saint-Robert.

"We are glad to announce the release on 25 January 2021 of a new sample set recorded on a historic French organ."

Looking forward to this interesting release!

Hi Organorak, not sure if we are speaking about the same console, yet Bernard Aubertin has already built a very similar console some 10-15 years ago -

Image

There was much attention to details in it, as can be seen inside the console, with a complete rollerboard -

Image

It was originally built for the Souvigny Museum if not mistaken, but since the deal didn't go through, it has been proposed on different channels to potential customers. I never found out the price, but anyways it was demanding a lot of space -

Image

If not mistaken Souvigny has been sampled. A first time when this console was built - but not satisfactory as mentioned by its author himself, and most probably a second time at least. It has been mentioned several times on the French Hauptwerk forum the instrument should be released soon... and postponed. The pictures are coming from the very same forum -

http://www.hauptwerk.fr/forum/index.php ... 49#msg1049

Alternatively, la Chaise-Dieu sounds very interesting indeed...

Looks to be the same one, and the names of the participants are the same. You can read about it (en français) here:

I have the same feeling, yet since I was not sure I preferred to remain cautious.

The strange point is the video clip was mentioning a recent midification of the console that actually was done quite a long time ago. Besides, it looks different from what was originally done - maybe it had to be renovated?

Thanks for sharing the pdf OrganoPleno, could not find it any longer!

Same organ, different stages of the work.

The PDF file is dated 25/04/2011, by which time the Organ was evidently complete.

The Video is dated April 25, 2019 and refers to "Midification effectuée" avril 2019.

But a further note on the Video says "Conseillers pour la remise en état de l’orgue virtuel : MM. Philippe Klinge et Jean-Luc Perrot."

So if the Organ was put back into good status in 2019, it must then have fallen OUT of good status some years previously. In any case, the Organ was clearly NOT new at the time of the Video, but more like a Re-Dedication of a Restored Instrument.

The Notes on the Video state, "Orgue virtuel, propriété privée."

If the Organ is now Private Property, then it has probably been sold, and then restored by the new Owner. That would be somebody named "JLP" according the the Thank-You Notices at the end of the Video.

Very likely, Jean-Luc Perrot (famous French Organist)..."In January 2013, he was appointed to... the François-Henri Clicquot organ in Souvigny, " Who better to enjoy this particular Project for his Home Organ? And he is mentioned on the Video as one of the Restorers. Yet though he is known as Organist, Composer, and Musicologist... he is NOT known as a builder or restorer of Organs. So most likely he took this on as a personal "hobby" project of his own.

Hello
Sorry, I can't see the point of this replica.
If you are official organist in a church, you can access to the instrument at any time.
So what is the point having exactly the same console at home ?
I would understand if the real instrument was out of order, but this is not the case...

You've never tried playing an organ in a freezing French basilica have you? Being able to see your breath whilst wearing heavy leather coats with infrared heaters in the corner isn't exactly a "comfortable" experience. To say nothing about how out of tune they become.

And whilst it may not be a console to your liking insofar as your preferred samples and rep are concerned, no doubt there are French baroque specialists for whom this is the closest thing to the real deal and is a dream come true.

Hello Romanos, This is exactly what I do and have to deal with several times a week !
And I never said I didn't like this console ... just wondering "why"

I have almost always lived 30 to 60 minutes away from the churches I have served as a director of music. This required 1-2 hours of travel time to practice at the church. After I had an organ at home, I could practice for 20 minutes or an hour when my schedule allowed. That would not be possible if I had to go to the church.

Hello voet,
Yes, I understand, and I agree about time saving, but you don't need to have exactly the same (very expensive, and "french baroque-classical exclusive") console at home... this is THAT point that I don't understand... :?

I think this Hauptwerk console is super cool, whatever it may have cost. Anytime you get a professional builder to make a Hauptwerk console, you get good quality manuals and pedals, and other hardware and accoutrements. You wouldn’t be able to play romantic music as easily, but it would still be somewhat doable minus expression. Still a very cool console, thanks for posting!
