Name the biggest ever virtual pipe organ

PostFri Aug 15, 2008 6:10 am

Dear Organists!

Some of you may already know that we (at Inspired Acoustics) are creating a new virtual pipe organ for Hauptwerk.

Since we do not yet have a name for it, I thought I would ask for your suggestions.

There are two key points to the names we are looking for:

- the name should smartly reflect but should not explicitly contain the name of the place and the instrument
- the name should be compatible for abbreviation in 3 or 4 letters

Submitter of the winning entry will get a complimentary copy of the new virtual instrument.
Here are two recordings that were made on this instrument:

- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvXddUK7I4k
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmXMSfxWXP8

Looking forward to your submissions!

Hello Csaba

How about Buda-Arts V-92 (assuming you are sampling the entire monster)or better still

Buda-Arts Symphonic

Moniker could be hence BAV 92 or BAS or possibly the best might be (as it pronounces more easily in English at least)
BDS I think reflecting its geographical and musical origins.

Good luck - if it sounds as good as NDB it will be a great addition to the Hauptwerk Stable.....mmm thinks... can't a Dell 7400 have 128Gigs of RAM with Risers?

Regards

Peter
just fine tuning my entry !

Seems likely:

"Béla Bartók National Concert hall

This eye catching, beautiful hall with its astounding acoustics can match any in the world. It is the work of the ARTEC firm, led by Russel Johnson, which is responsible for many of the world’s other leading concert halls and opera houses.

The auditorium houses 1699 people (of which 136 are standing places) and a further 160 seats can be accommodated on the podium. Standing tickets can be obtained by young people presenting a valid student card half an hour before the performance at a cost of 200 forints.

It is most probably joyful news to the Palace of Arts and to all music lovers that in the spring of 2006, the “queen” of instruments, the organ has also moved into Bartók National Concert Hall. Sixty experts participated in the construction of the unpaired 92-register, 5-manual symphonic organ for a period of thirteen months. The largest pipes, in a so far unique way, were already erected during the construction phase of the concert hall.

The official handing over of the organ took place in organ inauguration concerts, a grand organ inauguration gala concert and accompanied by an international organ festival where the organ was tested for the first time by internationally renowned organists such as mint Philippe Lefebvre, Olivier Latry, Xavér Varnus, István Baróti and László Fassang."

Hi all,

googeling around reveals some more information about it, directly from Mühleisen, the german organ builder who put this thing up:
Link to information (only in German).

Enjoy

Hello Csaba,

I truly loved the NDB samples for gigastudio, great work. Now, tell us more....

- Will or did you sampled each individual stops or will it be, like NDB, different registrations?
- Will it be a dry sample with IR from the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall or will it be wet?
- When can we expect this new organ?

For the name of the virtual organ I suggest: The Attila Virtual Organ 92 or AVO in reference to Attila the Hun... like Attila and the Huns, the AVO will conquer not only the Hauptwerk world in Europe and Central Asia, but the whole world! The AVO will rule the Hauptwerk's world like no other sample!!!

Now can I have my free sample :-)))))

Wow - what a monster! That must have taken an hour or two to sample.

````` What about calling it Makrokosmos!
...or if you want a 3-letter acronym...how about:
````` MFB - Makrokosmos Ferencváros Budapest

Good luck with the project, this would be an amazing organ to have in Hauptwerk.

Hi François,

All I can tell today is that

- all pipes are sampled and all of them individually
- it will be your choice to use release samples, IRs or none of them (dry)
- stay tuned, it will come this year

Great! I hope multiple release samples?

Best regards and good luck with the sampling,

Here are the specifications of this magnificient organ: (if one of our Hungarian's friend can translate the text, that would be interesting...)

A BARTÓK BÉLA NEMZETI HANGVERSENYTEREM ORGONÁJA:

Az 5 manuálos, 92 regiszteres, 6804 síppal rendelkező orgonát a stuttgarti székhelyű Werkstätte für Orgelbau Mühleisen GmbH és a Pécsi Orgonaépítő Manufaktúra Kft. építette 2006-ban. A hangszer hangképének kialakításában Baróti István és Fassang László orgonaművészek, a homlokzat megtervezésében Zoboki Gábor építész működtek közre.

Az orgonához két játékasztal tartozik. A hangversenyterem második karzatszintjén elhelyezkedő, az orgonaházba épített játékasztal mechanikus játéktraktúrával és elektromos regisztratúrával rendelkezik. A színpad tetszőleges pontjára helyezhető játékasztal elektromos rendszerű.

A gazdag regisztrációs lehetőségek és a legmodernebb játéktechnikai segítők révén a hangszer a teljes orgonairodalom megszólaltatása mellet ideális partnere lehet a legkülönbözőbb hangszeres és vokális együtteseknek a kamarakórustól a nagy szimfonikus zenekarig.

What a magnificant instrument. I'm very much looking forward to hearing and perhaps playing this. When I saw the pictures, the size and symmetry put me very much in mind of the code breaking Colossus computer built during WWII http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_computer. Certainly learning the location of all the stops is a code breaking exercise in its self! So my proposal is "Colossus" (no abbreviation needed).
