Caen Cavaille-Coll sample set released

PostSat Jan 24, 2009 10:45 am

The work on the Caen Cavaille-Coll sample set is comming to its final phase. The crucial question now is what resolution should I choose for the screen console. I always try to make the console to fit 1024x768 px, which is suitable for all my users (this is my long-term experience). However, large instruments such as Litomysl or Zwolle require at least 1280x1024 px screen resolution as it would be impossible to fit all the stops on the screen otherwise.
The Caen instrument is sort of on the edge. It seems to be too large instrument for 1024x768px screen and there are problems when trying to fit all the drawstops in while preserving their legibility and comfortable touching. However, I know that a good portion of my users cannot set their touchscreens to larger resolution. Maybe, I am wrong and most Hauptwerk users bought new screens in the meantime and the 1280x1024px resolution is not an obstacle any longer.
Therefore, if you are considering acquiring the Caen Cavaille-Coll sample set, I would be happy to receive quick feedback on the question whether the big console resolution fitting 1280x1024px (the same size as Litomysl or Zwolle) would be an obstacle for you.

Hello Jiri,

Personally my touchscreen support up to 1280x1024. I think that this resolution (and 1280 x 800) are becoming the norm.

T/S are quite expensive and many users bought 15" (1024x768) screens not so long ago and would like to still be able to use it. Maybe you can create a 1024x768 screen, not as nice and functionnal but at least usable.

When you look at the Theatre organ screens will their "tons" of tabs, I'm sure you will be able to provide "a workable" 1024x768 screen.... more work for you I know but at the same time you will get a few more potential customers who will be able to use it with their system.

Looking forward to this new sampleset

I finally upgraded to 1280x1024 screens (courtsey of EBay), so I'd be happy with that resolution, although I can sympathise with 1024x768 users. Hopefully dynamic screen layouts will appear before too long then you (and we) won't need to worry about it!

My touchscreen is 1280x1024.
There are also users with two screens with 1024*800 resolution.
Probably you can make two tabs (Left and Right) in the ODF with the stops fitting within the 1024*768 area or something like that?

Jiri,
My touch screen will do 1280X1024, but my MacBook widescreen will not. It's max resolution is 1280X800. I hope that you will consider this in your plans. I am still enjoying the Zwolle, but the lowest row is not visible on my screen.

Thanks,
Roy

Jiri, it seems to me that 1280x1024 is pretty much the standard. PAB, Hinsz, and OIC default to these resolutions.

Hi
I like the Haverhill OIC approach - a full resolution, photorealistic, full function screen for 1280x1024. and a more basic functional workaround screen at lower (1024x786??) resolution. It would be silly to exclude potential users given the current economic situation.

Hi Jiri,
I vote too for 1280x1024, that's a bit the 'current standard'.
Forcalquier and Freiberg are 1024x768 and that's not handy for me when I switch to that sets. I like full screen, so than I must also change my screen resolution.

Another solution is the already registered 'Enhancement request' for Hauptwerk: "flexibel screensize".
Best regards,
Gert

I have 1280x1024. That's what I would prefer.

Dear Jiri,

I too think that 1280x1024 would be most popular, according to the poll:

Best wishes to the Caen set,

Hello Jiri,

My touchscreen has a resolution of 1280 x 1024.
I think this is a good question. Meanwhile you know how many users has been interested in your sampleset. And perhaps the final price depends on the interest.

I have been a lot aroused curiosity to the price and quality of the set and I hope to hear soon the result of your work.
