Hi
The Heavy load you are quoting,
"is only at maximum power output"

You will only need to have more power circuits,
when playing at very high output levels,
not necessarily at living room playing levels !

I do not have more than one amp on a single circuit so I don't really have experience with that but TheOrganDoc is correct in saying that it should not be a major concern unless all channels are driven at high volumes.

Even though Emotiva claims a 10 amp requirement for the UPA-7, I believe that figure has a bit of a safety margin. The theoretical capacity of a 15-amp circuit is 1800 Watts so two UPA-7s (875 Watts each) on a single circuit should be fine. Any more than that (or the addition of a sub) and you will more than likely blow the circuit at some point.

Thanks, OrganDoc and counterpoint. Your information is very helpful. I will pass it on to the electrician. Obviously some accommodation will have to be made, but perhaps not as much as I had originally thought. Thanks again, Ken

For anyone who doesn't need the balance inputs, the UPA-5 has a phenomenal price today.

BTW these amps look great -- thanks for bringing them to our attention. 8)

I also have two of the Emotiva amplifiers, one UPA-7 and one XPA-5.
Both are plugged into one 20 amp circuit.
I am lucky to have had a 240 electric heater which is no longer used,
so I separated the circuits into two 20 amp 120 volt outlets.
But both amps are now on one outlet and they do fine.
Of course they are not running at full power all the time.
The XPA-5 has two amps feeding 4 ohm subwoofers,
so it uses the most power but the other three channels
are not heavily used.

These amplifiers are of superb quality, and relatively cheap.
They have nice soft-start circuits, so don't require huge
amounts of current at start up as some amps do.
I plan to buy at least one more UPA-7.
I have nothing to do with Emotiva except as a
happy satisfied customer.

Good luck and best wishes,
Steve.

Has anyone tried the Stageline STA-1508 eight channel amp, costs around £400 but they also do a four or six channel version? They pop up on Ebay from time to time.

To all who want to employ multiple high power amplifiers, consideration for the electric service is still necessary. Even though they only draw max power when used at full volume, there is what is called inrush current when you first turn them on. If you want them to run on one supply circuit, you may have to sequence their startup so that they turn on a couple of seconds apart.

Just my 2 cents.

Emotiva's amps have soft-start circuitry, according to their specs.
