PAB Gravissimo - 144-stops, 64' pedal - starts now

PostSun Dec 12, 2010 4:26 am

Dear Hauptwerk Organists,

I am excited to share you the details of the new Palace of Arts Budapest (PAB) Pipe Organ Samples edition called the PAB Gravissimo, formerly codename PAB 2.

PAB Gravissimo is a major new release and it is the flagship PAB, succeeding the Extended Edition. PAB Gravissimo contains many new features, also incorporating those that You have requested, and it is made with the concept of convenient use and flexibility. PAB Gravissimo is a lot more powerful in sound than the Extended.

PAB Gravissimo is a 144-stop virtual pipe organ with two 64’ stops. Summary of the new features:

Additional stops and compass extensions
  • 52 new virtual stops based on extensions of the originals, all together 144 stops
  • Additional stops and compass extensions are separately loadable
Couplers of all directions
  • Mechanic couplers between keyboards
  • almost 100 divisional electric couplers
  • regular couplers between all directions
  • transposing (16' or sub, and 4' or super) couplers
  • self transposing couplers (16' or sub, and 4' or super) couplers
  • reverse (pedal to keyboard) couplers with optional converters to split mode
  • unison off coupler
  • bass and melody coupler converters
Swellboxes
  • All 6 divisions (pedal, positive, grand orgue, recit, solo, chamaden) virtually enclosed
  • 3 freely assignable swell pedals
  • Swellbox pedal couplers (one pedal follows and controls the other)
  • Swellbox range and curve adjustments
  • Swellbox operational direction selector, for all pedals independently or jointly
Performance and convenience
  • Keyboard to division assignment buttons - assign while you play, control multiple divisions from one keyboard
  • 8-preset PerformanceSequencer™ secondary combination action (save and recall configurations while you play)
  • Extended crescendo program and crescendo wheel that works in an additive way
  • EasyCrescendo™ programming (one-click programming of an entire crescendo sequence)
  • Real-time dynamic KeyboardMass™ simulation and control for all keyboards
  • Programmable PL and TT switches that works in an additive way
Tremulants
  • 3 tremulants, with the additional tremulant for the Solo division
Acoustics
  • Original concert hall acoustics
  • sCSA cathedral acoustics (with a separate ODF file)

RAM requirements
  • Default, all loops, all releases, 16-bit, concert hall acoustics: 16.68 GB
  • Default, 1st loops, all releases, 16-bit, concert hall acoustics (recommended setup): 11.49 GB

The coupon code should work now if it did not work previously. I just tested it, sorry for the complication.
Yes, the 64' stop should be 'handled with care'.

David,

I had the chance to try the Gravissimo and believe me, the power of this organ is frightening! The PAB-Pro dymanic range was impressive, but the Gravissimo makes the Pro look like a small instrument!

At first when I saw the 64' stops (lower C=8hz) I said to myself that no sub (at least one that fits in my house!) could reproduce it, or add anything to the sound... what I forgot is that my sub can reproduce lower C' 32' stops and we often play pedals within the second octave, so the 64' does add a lot of depth and power.

What is unbelievable, is if you use it with convolution, you will be able to shake the neighbourhood with an 8Gb computer.

There is so much to explore in this instrument, so many features, couplers and possibilities that I hope that someone writes a yellow book... "PAB Gravissimo for Dummies"... maybe I will write it!

Thanks Csaba

Best regards
François

hmm.. Maybe the word "only" was not right, yes i'm sure it was not right.
92 stops can never be a good start. Take the train for example, if it stops 92 times on your way to wherever you want to go, You really have the feeling you're going nowhere.. :| :?

Indeed true, the PAB Gravissimo is very powerful compared to Pro and Extended, especially when you set the original Tutti to the same loudness as it was with the Pro/Ext. Then when you add the new stops and couplers a new experience opens. But please also consider protecting you ears, equipment and neighborhood relationships.

One more thing to note, answering contact inquiries: PAB Gravissimo is compatible with 3 manual consoles, 2 manual consoles, and consoles without pedal too. With the provided one-click manual assignment switches, you can assign multiple divisions to the same keyboard, for example PAB's Solo, Chamade and Récit can all go to for example the 3rd keyboard of your console. You can do the assignment after you loaded the organ, and you can change it while you perform.
Yours truly,
Dr. Csaba Huszty

Well, that's a very welcome option. Does it also include melody and bass couplers then?

Yes, it contains Bass and Melody couplers too. Please see the attached screenshot below for the couplers page. B and M buttons will convert the coupler below to them to Bass or Melody couplers. For convenience, if you press the B or M buttons before turning the coupler itself on, the coupler will be automatically turned on so you need to click/touch/press only one time.

Additional info to frequently answered questions: PAB Gravissimo contains both the concert hall and sCSA acoustics, similarly to the Extended Edition. RAM requirements above are for the default concert hall loading setup.

Hi Csaba, I'm looking forward to this version very much myself! One little thing, if I may add - on the screen shot, I noticed there is a tiny typo for "Great Organ": as far as I know (although Francois, Eric or others may update me on this), the language gender "Grand orgue" is masculine in singular, feminine in plural (les grandes orgues).
Regards,
Sipirc

Csaba,

Sipirc is right... the division name should be "Grand Orgue"! (should have seen it before...sorry  )

Sure, thanks very much, Sipirc! (It was just a test who looked it carefully :D) But to be serious, for some reason the original specs had this labeling, and we used this - then incorrect - labeling systematically. I will go and fix it.
Yours truly,
Dr. Csaba Huszty
