OAM Anniversary, Ladegast organ ready for pre-orders

PostSat May 11, 2013 9:31 am

OAM is happy to announce

the 10-Years OrganArt Anniversary :D :D
and
the completion of the 1885 Friedrich Ladegast sample set.

OAM has been the sample set producer from the very first beginning of Hauptwerk in 2002 and is proud to have been taken part in a lot of development steps, such like
- The first fully integrated HW console with double touch screens at Frankfurt Music Fair in 2005
- The first set with multiple releases
- The first set with native tremulant recording for all ranks

So, I would like to celebrate with you offering a very special Anniversary Edition

The Ladegast organ will be published in two releases
1. Two-channel Front version
2. Four-channel version extension with mixers for VarioPerspective and Surround setups (coming soon)

The DVD set includes two DVDs (Front version) and a 20-page booklet (English and German version available) with many images and detailed information about Ladegast's life and work, church, instrument and restoration history.
http://www.organartmedia.com/ladegast

This mid-sized work of Friedrich Ladegast is one of his last examples of a three-manual mechanical action organ with manual cone-valve chests, a slider pedal chest and a Barker machine.
Except for the reconstruction of the tin front pipes and the replacement of the Lieblich Gedackt on Manual III by a Vox Celestis, carried out by Oskar Ladegast, the instrument is completely original.
The instrument was comprehensively restored by the firm of Schuke (Potsdam) in 1989-1991, providing us once again with one of the last original organs from this period. A general overhaul of the organ was completed in 2010 by the firm of Hüfken (Halberstadt), following the renovation of the church.
The organ has a wide range of tonal colours, from Baroque-like sounds to the early Romantic period with delicate and expressive flute tones, to the powerful eight foot sounds of the late Romantic. The wide range of eight and four foot stops offer many possibilities in building up the plenum.
A Ladegast speciality is the beautiful string and flute stops such as the Doppelflöte, Flauto amabile, Flauto travers, Gamba and Salicional, each with a strong individual character but with excellent mixing qualities, offering a wide array of tonal colours.

The St. John's church of Wernigerode has a middle-wet acoustics with up to 3 s of reverberation.

A lot of live played sound demos is already available on the ConcertHall site, please search for "Ladegast"

VERY interesting offer! What's the pricing for the four-channel version? Is it also subject to a discount?

Dear Prof. Maier,
Will we be able to upgrade to the Surround Version afterwards if we buy the Front Version now?

Yes, of course.

The Front version release (part 1) is ready, pre-order starts right now.
This release is a "near-console" version like the former OAM sets. The surround addition is not necessary, if you don't want/need

The Surround extension version (part 2) will come soon and will be available for all purchasers of part 1 (additional costs)

Thats nice to hear. Well, the reduced price really made me consider this organ, and after listening AGAIN through all the contrebombarde Demos I'll sleep over it one more night, before deciding. :D

Memory requirements:
Standard 2600 MB (16-bit compressed, all loops) up to 4500 MB (24-bit compressed, all loops)

are you sure there's no mistake ?
2,6 GB / 4,5 GB seems very few for a 33 stops multirelease organ,
and 26 GB / 45 GB seems huge ... :?:

Most likely this is due to the fact that the recording was made with short tails samples with reduced reverberation time. In the presence of channels with the reflected sound( surround samples ) similar method is justified and provides a more expressive sound of the front.
But this is just my assumption and it is better to wait for a comment, Mr. Maier.

Thanks for the discussion!

The RAM resources for the Front sample set, 16-bit, compressed, 3 release levels, are indeed correct.
No manipulation was applied, that means, we have the full reverberation etc.

Have a look at the HW4 resources window for the loaded organ:
Image

28.0 GByte free RAM for my 32 GByte Win7 Professional system! Win7 itself needs about 2 GByte RAM.

The modest RAM consumption has several reasons:
- Medium wet acoustics (max. 3 s)
- No tremulants
- Careful cutting and looping of all samples (saves a lot of wasted memory, but takes much more editing time!)

Will the surround extended version have a considerably wetter sound?

Yes, check for example
http://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/10096

There are some more examples, please check the demo descriptions

Listeners position about in the middle of the church. You still can go more back.
The church is not very big, so you can't expect a cathedral sound, of course, but you get a very clear and present sound.

Prof. Maier,

I'm glad you are including the surround option. I remember a number of years back where you had said the surround was not a good idea, that two nearfield front channels were the best. This may be true, but I've found I at least much prefer the surround sets.

Thanks,
Eric
