The Advanced Search function seems to be inoperative.. or is just me ?

It must be you. It works for me on my ipad using Safari.

Same here. Using IE-8 in WinXP, the Advanced Search function does not work at all. Fine with Firefox.

Works in Win 7 and IE11.

So, what doesn't work exactly in IE-8? The only thing we changed was the location of the "advanced search" link. None of the other code was changed.

Does it not go to the advanced search when you click or does the advanced search page itself not work somehow?

Yes.. it doesn't respond to a mouse click in IE8 (or IE9) Vista.. OK Safari, Firefox, on same PC
