How to: Posting images on the forum
Here is a tutorial to illustrate how to add images to your forum post.
• Your original image must be a maximum of 640 pixels wide. If larger than 640 pixels you can use an image editor (Photoshop, MS Paint etc.) to reduce the image size. This forum will not allow images to be displayed inline that are larger than 640 pixels wide.
• Upload your image to your own web hosting site or an image hosting site such as Photobucket (free).
• Copy the URL (link) where your image is stored, the image hosting sites will usually offer you a means to copy the link quickly. Or you can view the image in your browser then right click on it and choose Copy link.
• Paste the link (CTRL V on PC or Command V on Mac) into your forum post then highlight the entire link with your mouse.
Click for larger view • Make sure that you do not have the BBCode option disabled:
• Click the button above the text box area named 'Img' which will add image tags to your link. These tags will allow the forum to display the image as a photo and not as a text link in your post.
Click for larger view • Verify the process is done properly and that your link is copied correctly by clicking the 'Preview' button below the text area. You should see the image now within your forum post.
Click for larger view • Click the Submit button to submit your new post.
• Enjoy knowing you can share your photos here with other forum users!

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Going one step further, if you wish to show a larger size image than is allowed on the forum (more than 640 pixels wide) you can set the inline forum image to link to your original larger image which will open in a new window. You will need to have two images, one for the forum (with a maximum width of 640 pixels) and the larger image to be linked to (which may be any size since it will not be displayed inline on the forum).
I edited the above post which now allows clicking the image to bring up the original full size image taken directly from the camera on the iPhone (5.7 MB).
The original Img tag link needs to be wrapped with the URL tags which contain a link to the second larger image.
Here is how it should be set up:
Click for larger view This isn't required, but is a nice additional feature for those wishing to show users here a larger image.

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Has anyone tried to use Flickr to host their photos and then post them? When I attempt to preview my post, I get an error, "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Here is an image hosted at Flickr:
I got the link by going to my flickr image, opening the 'Actions' menu, selecting 'View All Sizes', and then on the 'Photo / All Sizes' page I selected 'Medium 640'. I right clicked on the picture (Firefox on Windows, your mileage may vary) and selected 'View Image' and then copied the URL into this forum post between the IMG and /IMG tags.. Instead of right clicking on the image you also can right click on the "Download the Medium 640 size of this photo" and select 'Copy Link Location' (again, depending on your browser this might be different.) Whew! Is there a simpler way?
Some images may not be linkable (I think) depending on the license chosen by the owner of the photo. But I would suppose that you would only link to your own photos.
Hope this helps!

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Hi, it´s taking several hours in attempting to upload my images, but in vain, I also get the message "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image" after the Preview action. I tried to load my images from Photobucket and Flickr. They are 445 x 593 pixels, 102,8KB.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I see you posted images successfully here:

So I presume you have it all figured out then.

Certainly, Brett, thank you. Only I had to close the image file before to upload it.
Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Does one *have* to upload images to a web-hosting site or similar and then give a link to that site?
Is it not possible to insert images (jpeg etc.) directly into a post somehow?

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
The short answer is no, at least I haven't found a way to do this directly.GrahamH wrote:Does one *have* to upload images to a web-hosting site or similar and then give a link to that site?

Yes, you must host an image somewhere on the web and cannot post them directly to the forum database. We don't host images here other than those that we ourselves post.

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Hello,
Following exactly the instruction to post a photo, in the preview I have this message:
It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.
The dimensions of my image are 532x289 pixels.
What did I wrong?

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
Hello Luc,
I think the forum software just gives that error message generically if it can't access the image file your link specifies. Some possible reasons for that:
- Your URL for the file might be wrong. (Check by pasting the URL into a new browser window.)
- The file might be in a format the forum software doesn't support. (Make sure it's in standard JPEG format.)
- The linked file might be password-protected. (Make sure it isn't.)
Does that solve it?

Re: How to: Posting images on the forum
An update: we understand that the 'Photobucket' service used as an example above no longer allows free hosting, but other websites do, as covered in this topic: http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=16249
Best regards, Martin.
