Re: Values
Three compelling reasons why I haven't upgraded from 4.2 yet are (1) the quality of the HW software then was high enough for me then and remains good enough for me now. It doesn't crash, it loads fast enough for me and when it ain't broke I see no reason to fix it. That's the problem when you have a ...

UK: free 3 manual drawstop console urgently needs new home
Just spotted this on Facebook - I have no connection to it but a three manual drawstop Compton (electronic organ) console is evidently on offer for immediate collection free to whoever wants it and can collect this week (by 8 November 2024) otherwise it will be scrapped. Location near Norwich on the ...

Re: Source for engraved pistons in EU?
I bought a packet of 100 white plastic push buttons for a few Euros from a company in Hong Kong via Ebay. If I was doing my build again I'd look for a slightly higher quality or more robust - one is temperamental and another snapped off once whilst I was vigorously practising some Lizst. Annoyingly ...

Re: Modern playing aids
I hope it isn't cheating, as long it's done judiciously and doesn't change the piece substantially! Even different editions of the same piece can be written out differently - some scores of the G major Bruhns Praeludium have a fugal section of double pedalling whilst others put one of the two feet ...

Re: MIDI-ready keyboards
The Midiworks keyboards will be the Fatar TP60L or LF I believe which is their premium design: http://www.fatar.com/Pages/TP_60L.htm# Fatar do many variants e.g. with wood surface or black white reversed etc. Plus cheaper ranges like TP6 or TP8 though no personal experience of them and look too ...

Re: Adjustable delay for pipes and divisions
There's a 3 manual pneumatic action Gray and Davison organ near where I live. Each manual's action is at a different speed which makes playing trio sonatas or solo effects quite challenging as each hand and feet must play slightly out of sync to sound together. If it was ever sampled that's an ...

Re: Replacing pedal reed switches - need an idiot's guide
Top tip, buy a few spare reed switches to replace the ones you mangle attempting to fit them. And ensure you can adjust position of reed and/or magnet. Nothing worse than getting note to sound too early so it goes off by the time the pedal is fully depressed. Except perhaps, side to side movement ...

Re: Uses for toe studs (foot pistons)
Depends on the set but for me mostly as generals or divisionals. But with two tweaks. For French romantic I use them as couplers and ventils, but have added and linked them to coupler and ventil drawstops on my touchscreen. Thus I can control each ventil with foot or hand, and more importantly I can ...

Re: Hauptwerk 8 Early user experience
That sounds most encouraging. I'm still running "old school" 4.2 but that's because I have most of the sample sets I'm most interested in, my disk won't take any more and as everything works so well under Win 7 (I actually downgraded from Win 10 as I found it didn't work as well) I don't want to ...

Re: Advice for DDR5 memory speed, new PC build
I have a "mere" 24GB on my 12 year old PC. Runs my four manual surround samples in 20bit front and 16bit rear and samples take a couple of minutes to load from SSD. Were I to get a new PC and fully utilise Martin's recommended 128GB RAM would they take five times as long to load (~128 / 24)? Or does ...

Re: Frustrated.com
Martin might not like me for saying this (though I hope he takes it as a compliment!) Hauptwerk can be a faff to set up in the first place or when installing a new organ and "connecting" all the various console controls to the computer model. But you only need to do it once, and if you choose sample ...

Re: Uses for toe studs (foot pistons)
i have a page up and page back toe piston for my digital music desk which I use more than any other. For Caen I do use pistons as ventils BUT have duplicated each ventil as a drawstop (using a custom jorgan interface). So I can always see their status and operate by toe or by hand. Works brilliantly ...

Re: PDF Page Turning with MIDI signals
Oooh that's worrying. I am still on Win 7 and Hw4. I miss not being able to install new samples but have a system that works perfectly after much tweaking. Might I check what you have tried in more detail to try to understand the problem? Is it that Bome is failing to convert Midi signals to ...

Re: PDF Page Turning with MIDI signals
Search my posts, I have the same setup but use a workaround to avoid Windows focus issues. In essence I use 1. widescreen 26 inch monitor same size as A4 double spread pages 2. page forward (and back) Midi outputtimg toe and thumb pistons 3. each piston triggers a Midi signal 4. Bomes Midi ...
