Re: St Mary, Redcliffe

Many of us in the Hauptwerk community have been looking forward to the release of this sample set. It is an important English instrument and, by virtue of its release in 2024, probably sounds better than some of the older large English organs that were sampled a number of years ago. I appreciate ...

Re: York!!!

There is simply no way you can reproduce an organ like that of York Minster as a sample set. ... At a minimum you'd have to do a sample set of the organ as it sounds in the nave and another as it sounds in the chancel, on the other side of the screen. As good as Hauptwerk is (and it is very, very ...

Re: New Sample Set - St. Davids Cathedral, Wales

I have listened to the YouTube recordings of this sample set by Sam Sleath, Richard McVeigh and Fraser Gartshore. It is really impressive. Richard McVeigh mentioned that St. David's sounds a bit brighter than St. Mary's Radcliffe, which he is preparing for release later this year. For those of you ...

Values

A recent post from a sample set maker announcing improvements to an existing sample set generated a range of opinions about the price. That thread got me thinking about the value we place on Hauptwerk and the many organs it allows us to experience vicariously. In the early days of my career, one of ...

Re: Extension for the Rotterdam Hoofdorgel Sample-set

The Bovenwerk of the original Rotterdam organ has an 8' Viola di Gamba paired with a celesting stop of the same name. The only Gemshorn in the specification is an 8' stop in the Pedal. The Extension identifies the Viola and Vox Celeste in the Bovenwerk as added stops. The pair of Gemshorns in the ...

Re: St. Ouen Composite problem

An update on this situation. Sam Sleath helped me get the composite working. The instructions on his site state: "Please note, do not load the rank called 'Anches Silent (don't load)' at the bottom of the rank list, or an error will appear upon loading the composite." I had been loading everything ...

Re: Extension for the Rotterdam Hoofdorgel Sample-set

Very impressive, Jake. Finally, a 8' Basson-Hautbois in the Bovenwerk! The other things will be nice to have as well. I look forward to adding this to my collection.

Re: St. Ouen Composite problem

Thank you, Martin and Mark for your quick responses. I have contacted the maker and sent screen shots of the error message and the full text of diagnostic file. I am waiting for a response. I downloaded demo versions of the instruments required plus the full version of Cracow. Plus, I downloaded and ...

St. Ouen Composite problem

Can someone help me get the Sesquialtera St. Ouen composite set to work? Every time I try loading it, I get a 4662 error. I have not loaded the “anches silent” stop, but it makes no difference. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem and been able t ...

Modern playing aids

A few years ago while visiting an organist friend, I noticed that he used an intramanual- coupler for playing octaves in the right hand. I cannot recall what piece he was playing, but I seem to remember that it was a big romantic work. This made his legato playing easy. Lately I have been working on ...

Re: Sequencing or Stepper info

Once I got used to using steppers, I did not want to use anything else. I save my registrations by organ piece, for example, "Bach BWV 542," or "Franck Ch 3" Sometimes I can get two pieces on one set, "Gigout Tocatta Scherzo" Most of the time 10 pistons suffice, but if you need more, it is easy to ...

Re: 4 manual modern organ for Hauptwerk (Sonus Paradisi)

The Tuba is a great addition to Billerbeck. It soars above the full organ. On my system full organ can be heard distinctly under it, but you do need to couple the Schwellwerk and Rückpositiv to the Hauptwerk. It certainly provides a nice punch, if it is not overused. Thank you, Jiri, for offering ...

Those interested in the provenance of this organ might appreciate this from the July 1932 issue of The Diapason. MINNESOTA “U” BUYS NOTABLE INSTRUMENT ORDER TO AEOLIAN-SKINNER Specification of Four-Manual for Cyrus Northrop Memorial Auditorium, which Is also home of the Minneapolis Orchestra. The Uni ...

Re: Stops preview: UMN Northrop Aeolian-Skinner

Hi friends, This is an amazing instrument - although it has an A-S nameplate, it. “feels” like an EMS …. I mentioned this before, and was severely chastised by some folks here “no, it was built after GDH took over…” Yes, it was, but it was spec’d and designed as an EMS, and that took place BEFORE th ...
