Re: Syndyne Stop Action Magnet Suppliers in the UK
You are somewhat stuck. As you've gathered, there's no real UK distributor, and most organ builders don't want to be digital organ part distributors either. There may be a US distributor, I recall reading about this on the organ forum, but I don't recall their name. Perhaps you could order from them ...

Re: Upper end Mixture work
I would say though that while the other mixtures might have been made by Cliquot, Cavaillé-Coll never left the other stops in his organs totally alone! The mixtures had to match the rest of the organ, so he adjusted the wind going to every stop, and voiced them all according to his principles. So ...

Re: Upper end Mixture work
I think what you're missing is a result of the mixtures of St. Sulpice. It has two cymbale, which are quite a bit higher pitch than the usual fourniture. Cavaillé-Coll was also known to put a Carillon III stop (initially a 1' rank) that also has a bit of this quality. Both Caen and Metz are notable ...

Re: Values
Matthias, I find it quite offensive that you're calling my post a distraction.
For that money, at least here, they may not actually earn any more if they are in the right tax bracket. So it is not a distraction. We're not talking millions here.

Re: New Sample Set - St. Davids Cathedral, Wales
Since this is the OP's first set, I think it can be expected to have some growing pains like a pipe or two not being perfect. Most sample set developers provide updates in the first days or weeks. Frequently it is a pipe or two that isn't sounding quite right, and they replace it with a note beside ...

Re: Values
I think this is a bit like academia, where they say the bitterest arguments are between those with the least to lose! Definitely I think we've hit a chord here though, because a lot of people appear to be passionate about it. I'm curious what you think these "standards" are that aren't being met? 22 ...

Re: New Sample Set - St. Davids Cathedral, Wales
I think the "bad pipes" switch idea is a good one.I have Adlington, but I've never used it, because I don't want to listen to the bad pipes. I also don't like when sample set producers leave in strange artifacts like part of the room rumbling or a particular pipe sounding off. Sure it's how the ...

Re: Values
Well I certainly don't find your arguments convincing Einer, but it's probably pointless to argue any further. You can believe what you want. I think I explained what I mean is small, and I find the evidence convincing. You can believe what you want.

Re: Values
It's true that saying something is "small" is always relative. A quick search online shows there are 3.2 billion video game users worldwide. Adobe has 33 million subscribers as of 2023. App store users spent 89.3 million in 2023. Since we're talking about software, it's natural to compare it to ...

Re: Values
It's true "cheap" sets are not always low quality. There are some relatively inexpensive sets like Tihany, Zamardi, Farkasret, and the Aeris Castillian from AVO that are all cheap, but among my favourite organs. I played Tihany for my organ teacher, and he was quite impressed. The free organs ...

Re: Values
Sample sets really is an interesting market. It's true makers put way more work in than what the sets are worth, and the market is pretty darn small. It's getting bigger now, but as with most things, most sample set purchasers don't buy many sample sets. The few that buy many can't buy as many as ...

Re: New Sample Set - St. Davids Cathedral, Wales
The demos sound quite nice. The Bach in particular sounded pretty convincing, probably thanks to Father Willis. Personally I'd rather have a second choir division than a solo or a fernwerk. However I'm very happy with the Peterborough Hill and I'm not as much of a Willis fan. But will the purists ...

Re: Fatar Key Feel
PMK keyboards are made to order in Italy, then shipped to the customer. I understand he gets the key cores/keyboard frame, but then he needs to put the key covers on them, cheeks, etc. They come with basic contacts, but he attaches an arduino style midi controller to them before shipping them off. I ...

Re: Metzler Surround Release (UPDATE)
There are people who do not buy sample sets from a manufacturer where the handling of criticism from customers is very unfriendly. This is absolutely me. For this reason among others, I generally don't buy SP or OAM sets. I agree Pipeloops, for instance, has amazing sets, but also very friendly ...

Re: Fatar Key Feel
Yep, they are 100% Fatar. In Fatar's defence though, they have several models, and the higher end ones feel slightly better (not as flimsy, but just as clicky). Personally I've never liked any of them, but there's plenty of people that like that "tracker simulation" they have. It's fine until the ...
