engrssc - Ed Nupnau

PostSat Nov 27, 2021 11:43 pm

Has anyone spoken to or heard from Ed recently?

I always get a card from Ed on every holiday, and did not get one on Thanksgiving, so I emailed him and never got a response, then found this obit.

https://www.echovita.com/us/obituaries/il/roscoe/edward-c-nupnau-13720910

I’m hoping this is just a terrible coincidence. Ed’s last visit to the forum was Oct. 16.

Additional details in this obituary would seem to confirm the sad news.

I met Ed at Greenwood UMC before the big dedication concert in June 2019. We were both early arrivals from out-of-town and spent a bit of time chatting in the parking lot before the event. That meeting put a face to his numerous contributions in the Hauptwerk community through this forum. His presence here will be missed.

Rest In Peace, Ed.

That was the first and only time I met Ed face to face as well. He kept on pretty close contact regularly - every holiday I got a card from him.

He and a few others were extraordinarily helpful to me when building the GUMC organ.

Thanks for everything, Ed. Rest In Peace my friend.

I’m surprised how deeply this has upset me. I only had one direct communication from Ed - about an abstruse aspect of theatre organ programming – but he helped me a lot on the public part of the forum, most recently when I was reconfiguring part of my organ to go directly from USB to ADAT (as suggested by mnailor), and I referred to problems with the MOTU 828 Mark 3 sound card. He was a frequent and helpful poster on this forum, sometimes assisting others, sometimes offering general information we would otherwise have missed. I had a difficult day yesterday, coming to terms with the fact that this wonderful source of help and support is no longer with us.

His profile here records the fact that he made 7,283 posts since joining the forum in 2005 – an average of 1.25 posts per day for sixteen years. One consolation in all this is that the page set up by the family in his memory includes a photograph – taken at an organ console – so at last I can put a face to the name. A great loss, but I am grateful to be one of the many people who benefited from his knowledge and kindness.

I too had been wondering about the lack of posts from Ed, and was saddened to hear of his passing. We occasionally communicated by email, and spoke at length a couple of times on the phone. He was always very helpful and generous with the latest info on just about anything Hauptwerk related. As noted above, I'm glad for the photo of Ed which was posted online, as I now have a face to associate with his memory. Rest in peace.

I’m also very sorry to hear this. Ed was a very regular and generous contributor for a long period of time, and was always very helpful. He had a lot of experience and knowledge, and I am grateful for him. My deepest condolences for his family. May his soul rest in peace.

Thanks for posting this.
Ed and I were collaborating on some Arduino applications and I too was beginning to wonder why he was no longer responding to my emails. This confirms my fears.
The way Ed wrote about caring for his wife for so many years made me realize what a good man he was.
He will be missed.

Ed was always encouraging about my sampling ventures, and a great supporter - he had an endearing habit of sending E-Cards to brighten my day on a regular basis... they just stopped recently, and I was wondering if he was ok....

I will miss him - deepest condolences to his family and friends.

This is a very sad news. Ed was one of my first contact on the forum when I discovered Hauptwerk. We will miss his posts on this forum.

Wow, yes, very sad news and a total surprise indeed. Ed and I got to know each other pretty well over the years, he recently rescued me with a sound card I needed and he happened to have one. We emailed and chatted on a fairly regular basis and I just talked to him on the phone a few months ago, all seemed well with him at the time. I do know he had some health issues he'd tell me about when we talked and he was very heart broken over the loss of his wife Nancy. May he rest in peace, I pray for the repose of his and Nancy's souls, and that they are now reunited in heaven.

I'm sadden to hear this. I had a few PMs with him over the years but didn't know him as well as others here. I can rightly say you won't find a more dedicated Hauptwerk fan/champion than Ed! Even when he would post about the latest chip set, processor bench marks, or Microsoft offerings it was all with Hauptwerk in mind; would it hinder or improve.

Sincerely,

Danny B.

I will echo what others have said. Ed was a significant contributor to this Forum and to the Hauptwerk community. He was always one of the first to respond when I posted a question and his answers were always thoughtful and never condescending. He will be missed on this forum. Rest in Peace, faithful servant.
