A Recorded MIDI Concert by our community?

PostSat Mar 06, 2021 6:10 pm

Over on the facebook page of HW, there was an idea of this: To have some of you talented organists here play a concert on your choice of sample sets and MIDI record it and offer it for purchase! There seems to be some interest there and I thought I’d bring it over here to see what all of you thought?

I’m not sure of any rights issues for doing this but it sure sounded like a great idea.

Personally I’d purchase pretty much all of the ones I had sample sets for

I think a much friendlier option would be to simply get in the habit of sharing your midi recording along with the audio files at contrebombarde.

Yes Agree! Unfortunately.... the ratio of midi files to total uploads is probably single digits.

Just a thought....

I wish I had thought to do this with some of the folks that have played at GUMC, (With their permission of course....) but I have never actually done it.

The real kicker, is that the young man (Tim Duckworth) who voiced all of my theater stuff at GUMC passed away very unexpectedly at a very young age. His last recordings, made a day before his untimely death, were done using nothing more than a cell phone.

Every time visitors who knew Tim come to see the organ, they ask if I have MIDI recordings of him playing.

We did post the cell phone videos of him to our website as a small tribute to him, but to this day I still kick myself for not getting MIDI recordings.

I don’t disagree with you there; as I said, perhaps we just need a culture shift over there. Maybe a plea on that forum to encourage others would help nudge the needle.
